In May 2018, it was rated as a national first-class library. Chengdu Library was founded in 1912. It was named Sichuan library, Chengdu Municipal Library, Chengdu popular education branch and Chengdu Library. In September 2003, it was renamed Chengdu Library and officially opened to the public on October 1, 2003. Chengdu Library was founded in 1912. It was named Sichuan library, Chengdu Municipal Library, Chengdu popular education branch and Chengdu Library. In September 2003, it was renamed Chengdu Library. It is a project of "doing things for the people" by the municipal Party committee and the municipal government. It was officially opened to the public on October 1, 2003.

Chengdu Library is a national first-class library. It is an advanced unit of national public cultural facilities management, a key unit of national ancient books protection, an advanced unit of national reading, a demonstration base of national reading, and a demonstration base of Chengdu teenagers' extracurricular activities. In 2010, Chengdu Library added the brand of Chengdu ancient books protection center, and in 2016, it was awarded the "movable cultural relics restoration qualification" by the Provincial Bureau of cultural relics.

In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Sichuan provincial administrative office funded the establishment of Sichuan library.

In 1928, it was renamed Chengdu Municipal Library.

In 1935, Chengdu Municipal Library was merged into Chengdu Municipal Public Education Center.

In 1943, the Chengdu municipal government ordered the municipal library to be separated from the public education center.

In October 1946, Chengdu Municipal Library was renamed as "Chengdu Municipal Zhongzheng library".

After the founding of new China, Chengdu Municipal Zhongzheng library was renamed "Chengdu people's Library".

In March 1953, it was named "Chengdu Library", and its location was moved from people's Park to ancestral hall street.

In 2003, Chengdu Library was built in WenWeng road.

In September 2003, it was officially renamed Chengdu Library.

On October 1, 2003, the library was officially opened to the public.

In May 2018, it was rated as a national first-class library by the Ministry of culture.

Development of ancient books

As of December 2019, since the establishment of the restoration room in 2009, the library has restored the original catalogue of Qianlong, Pengxi county annals, liushugu, two volumes of sun Wenyuan's medical records in the first year of Wanli, two volumes of Mengzi's commentaries and Chunqiu Gongyang's commentaries and so on. During 2012-2013, the restoration project of ancient books in Xinjin County was completed, with 132 kinds of books, 405 volumes and 35384 leaves.

Academic journals

The journals issued by Chengdu library include Xiyue and reference, of which Xiyue was founded in 2011 as a bimonthly journal. Reference, founded in 2014, is a monthly magazine.
