Basic introduction
Brief introduction to Zhaoling
Zhaoling Mausoleum of Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty is the mausoleum of Li Shimin, the second generation emperor of Tang Dynasty. It is the largest mausoleum among the eighteen mausoleums of Tang Dynasty in Guanzhong of Shaanxi Province. It is located on jiugu mountain, 22.5km northwest of Liquan County, Shaanxi Province. It is 70 kilometers away from Xi'an, 30 kilometers away from Xianyang and 25 kilometers away from Xianyang International Airport. In 1961, the State Council announced Zhaoling as the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in China, and in 2002, it was rated as "3A" tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration.
Zhaoling Mausoleum, with a circumference of 60 kilometers and an area of 200 square kilometers, has more than 180 funerary tombs. It is known as the "world famous mausoleum". It is the largest mausoleum with the most funerary tombs in China's imperial mausoleum. It is also a representative Mausoleum of the Tang Dynasty. The construction of Zhaoling Mausoleum lasted for 107 years from the first burial of empress Taizong Wende in 636 to the 29th year of Kaiyuan (743). It is the physical witness of the early Tang Dynasty to the prosperous Tang Dynasty, and is a rare treasure house for us to understand and study the politics, economy and culture of Tang Dynasty and even the feudal society of China.
Collection
The museum has a collection of more than 4500 cultural relics, which are valuable material for the study of politics, economy and culture in the early Tang Dynasty. The painted glazed pottery figurines unearthed from the tombs of Zheng rentai and Zhang Shigui are the predecessor of the three colors of Tang Dynasty. The three colors of Tang Dynasty unearthed from the tombs of Li Zhen and an Yuanshou are magnificent and elegant. The "Sanliang jindeguan" unearthed from Li Ji's tomb is the oldest one in China. The terracotta figures of Hu and camel with different expressions unearthed from many accompanying tombs reflect the grand occasion of the Silk Road in the early Tang Dynasty and the great integration of various ethnic groups in China in the early Tang Dynasty.
There are 500 square meters of Tang tomb murals in the museum. The painting of song and dance in Li Ji's tomb is a precious material for the study of dance in Tang Dynasty.
"Zhaoling stele forest" is a collection of more than 40 existing tombstones in front of the accompanying tombs of Zhaoling and more than a dozen Hezhi stones excavated from the tombs. Among them are ouyangxun's wenyanbo stele, Chu suiliang's fangxuanling stele, Tang Gaozong's Lizhi Yushu's Lijing stele, Wang Zhijing's Lijing stele, Wang xingman's Zhouhu stele, Yin Zhongrong's Mazhou stele, Changzheng's chengzhijie stele, Kong Yingda's inscription on the pedestal of the stele, and weichi Jingde's "feibai script" on the epitaph.
Zhaoling is the mausoleum of Li Shimin and empress changsun, the second emperor of Tang Dynasty.
There are 20 tombstones on display in the first exhibition room, including Wen Yanbo's by Ouyang Xun, Fang Xuanling's by Chu suiliang, Li Jing's and Yuchi's by Wang Zhijing, Gao Shilian's by Zhao Mo, Ma Zhou's by Yin Zhongrong and Du junchuo's by Gao Zhengjun. Regular script prevailed in the early Tang Dynasty. The most famous calligraphers Ouyang Xun, Chu suiliang, Yu Shinan and Xue Ji are known as the "four masters of the early Tang Dynasty". We can see their excellent works here.
The second exhibition room displays steles and epitaphs discovered or re unearthed in the past 40 years. The Zhouhu stele written by Wang xingman is simple and powerful; the Li mengchang stele written by Li xuanzhi is neat and straight; some steles written by anonymous persons, such as Wu Guang stele, are solemn and sincere; the doulu Qinwang stele is free and easy. In 1974, the Zhaoling Museum excavated the other half of the stele, which combined it into a whole wall and became a popular story. The Tang Jian stele and Tang Jiahui stele represent the style of calligraphy in the prosperous Tang Dynasty. From these steles, we can see the development process of calligraphy in the Tang Dynasty from thin and hard to thick.
The epitaph unearthed from Zhaoling is a first-class product, with huge stone, gorgeous carving, exquisite calligraphy and clear handwriting. Among them, the epitaph of Yuchi Jingde is the most worthy of appreciation. It is the largest epitaph ever seen, with crystal stone color, delicate carving and 120 cm square. The inscription on the epitaph is "Fei Bai Shu". This kind of calligraphy, with white strokes, is as vigorous and vigorous as that written with a dry pen. It is the only one found in Tang tombs so far.
In recent decades, more than ten tombs have been excavated in Zhaoling. Although they were excavated in the early years, they still unearthed a large number of cultural relics, including murals, tomb animals, gold and silver ware, bronze mirrors, pottery figurines and so on.
The jindeguan of Sanliang is the only one of Tang Dynasty discovered so far. Both it and a sword were unearthed from Li's tomb. It is estimated that it was re buried by Emperor Zhongzong of Tang Dynasty after he rehabilitated Zhaoxue.
The largest number of unearthed cultural relics is pottery figurines. This is one of the earliest terracotta figures of the Tang Dynasty. The figures are vivid, various in shape and posture, and bright in color. The production process of this kind of painted glazed pottery figurine is also very unique. It is made of porcelain clay, baked into shape, applied with lead glaze, and then fired. Most of them are painted and painted, so they are called painted glazed pottery figurines. Some of them are decorated with gold foil, which is called painted pottery figurines with gold glaze. This kind of pottery figurine inherits and develops the production technology of painted pottery since Han and Wei dynasties, and is improved to add color and then burn, so that the painted pottery is not easy to fall off, so it becomes the predecessor of Tang Sancai. This kind of painted glazed pottery figurine was only popular in the early Tang Dynasty, and is rare in other places, so it is worth cherishing.
There is also a line carved statue stele of Emperor Taizong in Zhaoling Museum. According to the image, the emperor is a burly man with a bear's back and a beautiful face. Li Shimin has a curly beard, deep eyes, a high bridge of nose, fair skin, and looks like a "Hu man". His grandmother, Dugu's, was a Hun, and his mother, Dou's, was a Xianbei. He was a child born of national integration. It is very possible that this genetic feature appeared in him.
