Taishan World Geopark, China
Taishan World Geopark is located in Taian City in the middle of Shandong Province, covering an area of 158 square kilometers. On September 18, 2006, it was approved as the third batch of world geoparks by UNESCO. It is divided into Taishan core Park and peripheral park. The core park includes Hongmen, Zhongtianmen, Nantianmen, houshiwu and taohuayu; the peripheral park includes Lianhua Mountain, jianlai mountain and Taoshan mountain. Taishan is located in the western part of the continental margin tectonic active belt in eastern China and in the central Shandong uplift fault area of the Luxi block of the North China platform. It is a secondary tectonic unit of the North China platform.
The abundant geological relic resources in Mount Tai are of great value to the study of petrology, stratigraphy, paleontology, sedimentology, tectonics, geomorphology, earth history and other geological sciences. It has become a classic area of the frontier and focus of the International Geological Research on Early Precambrian and neotectonic movement. Among them, Taishan Group is the oldest stratum in North China, recording a long and complex evolution history of nearly 3 billion years since Archean. At the same time, Mount Tai has a long history and is a symbol of the Chinese nation's realistic and enterprising spirit. Mount Tai's history and culture is the epitome of the whole Chinese nation's history and culture.
