Development history
The name of the Taijiang River originated from the inland sea of the Taijiang River, a lagoon in the southwest of Taiwan Island in the 17th century. However, after the middle of the Qing Dynasty, the lagoon gradually became land-based, and the sandbanks (or Kunqu) were also connected with the land. Only the large remains such as Sicao lake and Kunqu Lake left a large wetland as an important biological habitat. In the past, the "four grass wildlife reserve" and "Yunjia south coastal national scenic area" were planned to be managed. In addition, the Taijiang river is also the site of several key events in history. For example, Zheng Chenggong entered the inland sea from the luermen waterway and recaptured Taiwan from the Dutch.
Setting up provincial parks in the areas of Sicao and Taijiang was the political opinion put forward by Xu Tiancai, the 14th mayor of Tainan City, during the election campaign. After he was elected, he actively promoted the plan. After several confirmations, in addition to adding part of the Taiwan Strait sea area, the adjacent Qigu township was also included and named Heishuigou Provincial Park of Taijiang River, among which Heishuigou is commonly known as the Taiwan Strait. On June 29, 2009, the internal affairs department of the Taiwan authorities approved the plan and established it in the name of Taijiang on October 15 of the same year.
