Guardian Church of Notre Dame

Notre Dame church was founded in 1902, is an orthodox cemetery church. At first, it was a stone structure prayer house. The believers were mainly Ukrainians, so it was once known as the Ukrainian church. In 1922, the Middle East Railway Bureau funded the construction of a large-scale wooden church on the east side of the prayer house to "guard" the Russian dead who died in the construction of the Middle East Railway, the suppression of the boxers and the Russo Japanese war. In 1930, the church was moved from the Ukrainian club to the old Russian cemetery (commonly known as the old maozi cemetery) in dongdazhi street. It was designed by the famous Russian architect Yu Bi zhidanov. Following the artistic style of St. Sofia's Cathedral in Istanbul, Turkey, on the basis of the wooden structure church, the Church of Notre Dame was rebuilt.

Notre Dame Guardian church, also known as Notre Dame shelter church and Ukrainian church, is located at 268 dongdazhi street, Nangang District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. Originally, it was an old Russian cemetery. At first, a stone structure prayer house was built in the cemetery, which was about 2 meters high and contained the statue of the virgin and candlestick. In 1922, construction began on a wooden church. In 1930, it was designed by the famous Russian architect gidanov, imitating the artistic style of St. Sophia's Cathedral in Istanbul, Turkey. On the basis of the wooden structure church, it rebuilt the present brick and stone structure church, which is the Harbin Church of the Chinese Orthodox Church. In Russia and Harbin, there are Notre Dame churches, which are Orthodox churches. Since the separation of eastern and Western sects, the Orthodox Church still has ancient religious rituals. Therefore, in the church, not only the images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary are worshipped, but also the images of dozens of saints are worshipped. Harbin is the only open orthodox church with typical Byzantine architecture in China.
