Hetian River originates from Kunlun Mountain and Karakorum mountain, flows into Tarim Basin in the north, passes through Taklimakan Desert and joins Tarim River. The Hotan River has two sources, kalakash River and Yulongkashi river. They are formed from south to North at kuoshlashi, 200km north of Hotan City, and then they are called Hotan River.
Yulongkashi River, also known as Baiyu river for producing white jade, originates from the glacier on the north slope of Kunlun Mountain; Kalakashi River, also known as Moyu river for producing Moyu, is a typical alpine snow melting supply River in Xinjiang, originated from KAILAS mountain on the north slope of Karakorum mountain.
In Hotan City, one of them is located in the east of the city and the other in the West. At present, the jade resources in the river are basically exhausted, but there will still be people looking for it in the river. Why don't you come to Hotan to explore it in person? Maybe the "jade" you picked up is not so good-looking, but in terms of its significance and commemorative value, it is much larger than what you bought in the market!
Hotan River
Hetian River (formerly known as Hetian River) is one of the four major sources of Tarim River in China. It originates from Karakorum mountain and Kunlun Mountain, flows into Tarim Basin in the north, passes through Taklimakan Desert and joins Tarim River. There are two sources of Hotan River: Kalakashi River in the West originates from the north of Karakorum mountain, and Yulong Kashi River in the East originates from the north slope of Kunlun Mountain, with a catchment area of 14575 square kilometers and an annual runoff of 2.31 billion cubic meters. Both sources are supplied by alpine precipitation and alpine melting water. During the flood season, the river can flow directly through the Taklimakan Desert for more than 400 kilometers and into the Tarim River. About 9 ∼ 10 months, it only flows to the north of Hotan and then disappears and becomes dry. The total length is 806 km.
geographical position
In the south of Tarim Basin, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, it is the largest river on the north slope of Kunlun mountain. Hotan is high in the South and low in the north, with Kunlun Mountain in the South and Taklimakan Desert in the north. The Hotan River is the only river that passes through the hinterland of Taklimakan Desert. It flows through the desert for more than 400 kilometers, with a width of 5 kilometers. The annual variation of runoff is small, and the annual distribution is uneven. The runoff in summer accounts for about 70-80% of the annual runoff. The natural green corridor in the lower reaches of the Hotan River can survive wild animals such as North goat, wild boar, gazelle, red deer, Tarim hare, etc In this desert oasis. Hotan River is a seasonal river, which can drift in flood season from June to August. During non River flood season, the river bed freezes or the river completely dries up, and the 5-10 km wide dry river bed forms a strip of desert. Driving here is almost the same as driving in the desert. The slightly better thing is that there are Populus euphratica forests on both sides of the Strait, which is not as directionless as driving in the desert. Hotan River is a shortcut through the Taklimakan Desert and an ideal route for desert exploration and tourism.
natural resources
Hotan River, located in the southwest of Tarim Basin in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, is the largest river on the north slope of Kunlun mountain. It used to be called Hetian River. There are Yulongkashi River and karakashi river. The mainstream Yulong Kashi River flows out of the northern foot of the Kunlun Mountain, and the karakashi river flows out of the northern foot of the karakunlun mountain, and it is called Hetian River after confluence. The lower reaches are divided into two branches: the East branch is the old Hotan River, which has been completely dried up; the West Branch is the new Hotan River, which is the main stream, passing through the Taklimakan Desert, and converging with Aksu River and Yarkand river near the upstream reservoir to form the Tarim River. It is 806 kilometers long. The river is supplied by mountain precipitation and glacier melt water. In the process of crossing the Taklimakan Desert, the evaporation and leakage are serious, and the water quantity is greatly reduced. The Hotan River accounted for 22.5% of the three main sources. In flood season, it carries a large amount of sediment into Tarim River.
