Brief introduction to Zhong Kui
(Zhong Kui's hometown, Zhong Kui, according to the description of Zhong Kui's image in Town God's Temple, Shaanxi)
According to legend, Emperor Ming of Tang Dynasty granted Zhongkui the title of "blessed sage" in Happy Valley, the hometown of Zhongkui in Huxian County, Shaanxi Province; Emperor Dezong of Tang Dynasty granted Zhongkui the title of "Exorcist emperor"; Jade Emperor granted Zhongkui the title of "divine judgment for protecting the Dharma"; and the folk believed that Zhongkui was the "God of all Ying".
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Zhongkui murals and sculptures were painted in the temple of the Emperor (Yanwangdian) and chenghuangdian (taking the painting of Zhongkui by Wu Daozi as the model), and a couplet was written: "Jinshi in the Tang Dynasty, the God of integrity in the world.".
Zhongkui temple in Changsha
There is a Zhongkui temple on Furong mountain in Hexi of Changsha City. It is said that it was built by local people to thank Zhongkui for exorcising ghosts.
Zhong Kui is a folk God who expels ghosts in China. He was born in Tang Dynasty, only because of his ugly appearance, he won the entrance examination and was not used by the emperor. The emperor said that his appearance was so ugly that he was afraid of ghosts. He sneered that he could only manage ghosts.
Zhong Kui, full of ambition to serve his country, never thought that he could not be an official because of his ugly appearance. So he began to travel all over the world. But the amazing thing is that every time he swam to a place, there was no ghost, no charm and no trouble. From then on, Zhong Kui's reputation of exorcising ghosts began to spread all over the world.
One day, when Zhong Kui traveled to Changsha and passed by Furong mountain in Hexi, he heard that the daughter of a family had been found by a ghost and was dying. Zhong Kui immediately stayed and walked into the family. The family's daughter was cured immediately. The family was very grateful and wanted to send money to him. Zhong Kui not only did not accept it, but also gave a jade bat on his sword to this family, asking him to hang it at home to drive away ghosts and evil spirits. In order to thank Zhong Kui and keep the peace of the place, the family built a temple for him and took the jade bat out of the house and offered it to him. From then on, the people in Furong mountain were no longer afraid of ghosts. They thought that the ghosts in the world were controlled by Zhong Kui, so they didn't have to be afraid.
