Monkey stone bridge

Houzishi bridge, also known as the third Xiangjiang River Bridge in Changsha and the xiangjiangnan bridge in Changsha, is a river crossing bridge connecting the south suburb park of Tianxin District and Yuelu District in Changsha City, Hunan Province, China. It is a part of the south 2nd Ring Road of Changsha City and the first large bridge with triangular stability in China

In 1958, the construction of Houzishi bridge was started; in 1960, the construction of Houzishi bridge was stopped due to historical reasons; in 1996, the construction of Houzishi bridge was restarted; in 1997, the construction of Houzishi bridge was stopped again; in 1998, the construction of Houzishi bridge was restarted here; in September 2000, Houzishi bridge was completed and opened to traffic, which was named Houzishi because there was a port at the east end

Houzishi bridge is an integral part of Changsha South Second Ring Road, connecting xinkaipu viaduct in the East and Luojiazui overpass in the West; interchange is set at the east end to connect with Xiangjiang South Road, and overpass is set at the west end to connect with Xiaoxiang South Road; the main bridge of Houzishi bridge is 1390 meters long and 27 meters wide, with two-way six lane bridge deck

Historical evolution

In 2016, the road and Bridge Department of Changsha Municipal Commission of housing and urban rural development started the upgrading project of lighting facilities of Houzishi bridge. The main construction content is to add point light source on the side of the bridge and wall washing lamp on the pier

Bridge structure

Houzishi bridge is a super large bridge crossing the Xiangjiang River in the south section of the urban ring road. The main span combination is 66m + 3 * 88m + 66m. It is the first large-scale bridge in China to adopt the triangle stability construction. The abutment of the bridge presents the shape of "V", which has never been used in other parts of China. It is also a major breakthrough in the process of bridge construction. The height of "Houzishi" bridge's column decreases from the center of the bridge to both sides, which not only ensures the normal navigation of ships in the river, but also shortens the construction period and saves the cost.
