Haihui temple, formerly known as Damo lane, was established by master Puzhong in Yuan Dynasty.
Historical origin
Haihui temple, located in Dahu Street (formerly known as Damo Lane), Yuhu District, Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, was established by master Puzhong in the Yuan Dynasty. It was a jungle of ten directions. It was rebuilt repeatedly in the Qing Dynasty. The old couplet in the hall said, "the deer garden passed the lantern early, believing in Prajna, Nirvana, the thousand realms of eternal sand and turbid world, Purgating Bodhi, turning the village into seven families, counting Tung leaves for autumn, and passing on the fierce wind and destroying the havoc. Longhua attended the meeting today, tracing back to the south Hunan Buddha land, Yuan Dynasty Zen, five hundred years of vicissitudes, he fortunately re Lotus Society, hall opened three, see the shade is OK, good with incense knot. 」
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), a Buddhist school was set up. In 1916, it was changed into Haihui primary school, with two classrooms in a duplex class. It was open to the public. The funds were shared by Haihui, Xichan, baiyunfeng, Dajie and Longyan temples. After 1949, it was merged into a public primary school. During the Anti Japanese War, houses were destroyed due to indiscriminate bombing by enemy planes. After 1949, master Lingwu, the abbot, returned to his native place and later joined the troupe.

In 1952, led by nuns lianzang and shaozong, they raised 350 yuan, and the Civil Affairs Department of Xiangtan Municipal People's government allocated 1000 yuan to support the establishment of a "self-help factory for monks and nuns" in Ziyun palace. Then the factory moved back to Haihui temple and was renamed "red flag cotton weaving factory". There were 52 workers (including 32 monks and nuns). In the next year, the non monks and nuns were reorganized, and Seng Hui Ming and Ni Shao Zong were appointed as the principal and deputy directors.
In 1956, all the monks and nuns joined the "Xiangtan textile supply and marketing cooperative" as members. In 1957, with the approval of the CPC Xiangtan prefectural committee, the United Front Work Department of the prefectural committee appropriated funds to repair the hall. The plaque was decorated with a new name, which was changed to "Haihui weaving production cooperative". Master Fuyun served as the director of the Council, with 43 members (including 34 monks and nuns), 25 hand looms and a monthly output of 780 feet of cotton cloth.
Zongchan, cangsheng, Biwu, WuJie, Dingyuan, Fuyun, Wujue, biding and yunzang were successively rated as labor models in the society. Dingyuan and yunzang were rated as advanced producers. In 1959, they merged with Aiai thread making cooperative and established Daxin thread making factory.
In 1964, it was changed into "Xiangtan line and belt factory". During the "Cultural Revolution", the Sutra statues were destroyed and the monks were shocked. Later, it was changed into "Xiangtan silk factory". Later, the silk factory was separated and still restored to the city line factory. The house is occupied by the factory and the adjacent theatre. The factory built dormitories for monks and nuns. All the 17 apartments were retired.
daily management
The factory moved out in 1987, and the occupied premises were returned to the temple for management. For the premises occupied by the adjacent theater (1300 square meters, including 700 square meters of building area), RMB 20000 was paid as compensation for Haihui temple. Since the 1990s, with the support of the government, up to 1998, Haihui temple has successively built and renovated the mountain gate, Daxiong hall, Tianwang hall, etc.; new statues of Sakyamuni Buddha, Guanyin and Maixie Bodhisattva, as well as statues of Ananda, Kaya, Weituo Dharma protector and four heavenly kings, etc.
At present, he is a profound master of Jianyuan. He is over 40 years old. He became a monk in 1984 and studied under master Bosheng. He graduated from Sichuan nizhong Buddhist College and concurrently serves as the president of Hunan Xiangtan Buddhist Association.
