The memorial hall of Chen Tanqiu's former residence is located in Chen CE Lou village, Chen CE Lou Town, Huangzhou district. It was built in 1866, the 22nd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. It has a double entrance, five rooms wide, a hard top and a brick wood structure. Chen Tanqiu's former residence was rebuilt in 1980 by the original Huanggang county government. In the past 20 years, the museum has begun to take shape after continuous expansion. There are two brick houses, one brick building with two floors and three reception rooms, covering an area of 280 square meters.

Chen Tanqiu (1896-1943), formerly known as Cheng, was born in Huanggang county (now Huangzhou District), a proletarian revolutionist and one of the founders of the Communist Party of China. Born on January 4, 1896 in Chencelou village. During the May 4th movement, he was one of the leaders of Wuhan student movement. He graduated from Wuchang Normal University in 1919. In 1920, he was a teacher of Wuhan middle school. In the autumn of the same year, he initiated the establishment of Wuhan Communist group with Dong Biwu, Bao huiseng, Liu bochui and other seven people, and organized the Research Association of Marxist theory. In 1921, Chen Tanqiu began to establish Hubei people's news agency as its president. In July, he represented Hubei Province to the first National Congress of the Communist Party of China. After returning to the Han Dynasty, he successively served as the principal leaders of Wuhan, Wuchang, and Hubei prefectural committees of the Communist Party of China. In February 1923, he launched and led student organizations of various trade unions in Wuhan to support the strike struggle of Beijing Han railway workers. After 1924, he served as secretary of the CPC Wuhan prefectural committee, Secretary of the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, Secretary of the CPC Manchuria Provincial Committee, and Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee. He attended the first, third, fifth and Sixth National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In January 1934, he attended the second national Soviet Congress and was elected executive member of the provisional government of the Soviet Republic of China and member of the people's commissar of grain. During the long march of the Central Red Army, he remained as a member of the Central Soviet Branch Bureau and led the guerrilla war. In August 1935, he and Chen Yun went to Moscow to attend the Seventh Congress of the Communist International and stayed in the Communist International to work. In 1939, he returned to China and served as the representative of the CPC Central Committee in Xinjiang and the head of the Eighth Route Army Office in Xinjiang. On September 17, 1942, he was imprisoned by Sheng Shicai, a reactionary warlord. He was indomitable in prison. He was killed on September 27, 1942, when he was 47 years old. Due to the isolation of information, he was still elected as a member of the CPC Central Committee at the 7th CPC National Congress.
From 1909 to 1926, under the guidance and influence of Chen Tanqiu, Chencelou village became the "birthplace of Eastern Hubei revolution" (Wei Wenbo language), which was burned by the reactionaries in the spring of 1926.
