Gaoqian ancient dwellings are surrounded by mountains and rivers, with white walls and grey tiles against the flowing water and green leaves. This low-key village was built in the Yuan Dynasty, and most of the existing buildings are from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with 11 ancient dwellings completely preserved. The layout of the dwellings is patio style, which is rarely seen nowadays. In addition to the exquisite brick and wood carvings, walking into them is like crossing back to a quiet afternoon in the old days. Most of the villagers, surnamed Wu, are old people and children. In fact, it's enough not to take a look at the old house or savor the tranquility here.

geographical environment
Gaoqian ancient residential group has a large scale, exquisite layout and complete preservation, which has lasted for hundreds of years. The ancient dwellings are beautiful in appearance, simple in elevation and solid in framework. They are especially famous for the exquisite stone and wood carvings inlaid on the windows and doors. These stone and wood carvings are exquisitely carved, with various styles. They are clumsy, symmetrical, simple, complex, powerful, magnificent, and neat. They are the concentrated embodiment of the carving art of ancient dwellings in China, and have high ornamental and research value. In particular, the story of animals and flowers in wood relief is amazing.
On the country road leading to the ancient house, two big gray geese, holding their chests and necks up, suddenly felt kind to this place. These houses are said to be one of the gathering places of the Wu family. They are surrounded by mountains and rivers, with white walls, grey tiles, flowing water and weeping willows, carved beams and painted windows, stone gates and deep tunnels. Living here, a scene of paradise is unforgettable.
History and culture
Gaoqian ancient dwellings were built in Yuan Dynasty. After several changes, the existing buildings retain the style of late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. According to the Taihe hall model, 13 buildings with six leaves, horse head, four eaves and "three through nine door hall" have been built one after another. In addition to burning 2 buildings, there are still 11 houses. The complete pattern is as before. Each house has its own style and beautiful appearance. The decoration of the house is very exquisite. Wood carving, stone carving, brick carving, hanging carving and relief carving are superb. Walking slowly and looking carefully, there will be exquisite sculptures from time to time, which makes people stop.
Gaoqian ancient residence is the residence of Wu family. There are 13 ancient residences built in Ming and Qing Dynasties, which are modeled after Taihe hall. It is a typical residence of Jiangnan family. The Wu family began with Yin Qing, a Guanglu official in the Five Dynasties (Liang Dynasty). In the history, there emerged outstanding talents such as Wu Fu, a direct Bachelor of LongTuge in the Northern Song Dynasty, Wu Jian, a prime minister in the Southern Song Dynasty, and Wu Shilai, a censor of zuodu in the Ming Dynasty. Until the 17th deputy marshal of eastern Zhejiang, general Huaiyuan and Yin Shugong of Xianju county came to live in Gaoqian.
Resident life
There are still villagers living in Gaoqian ancient houses. The villagers in the group are cheerful in nature, skillful in mind and simple in life. They still have quite a lot of traditional customs, such as spinning, tying, weaving straw sandals, pounding New Year cake, and doing Buddhism. People and ancient residences complement each other, and tourists are envious of the peaceful scene of keeping abreast of the world.
In Gaoqian ancient village, the villagers still live here, so the houses are still alive. Most of the people living in the seven open houses are old people and children. The old people's kind eyes are on everyone who comes in, while the children are curious. It seems that all the troubles outside have nothing to do with it. The stove is cold, and there has been no fire for a long time. The black soot hangs from the top of the beam. The wooden floor of the old house is a little loose, which shows the tranquility here.
The villagers here still have quite a lot of traditional customs, such as spinning, tying, weaving straw sandals, ramming New Year cake and so on. People and ancient houses complement each other, a picture of pastoral life that is independent of the world.
