Built in 1918, it is the largest Synagogue in China. Now, as the head of Harbin Architectural Art Museum, it is open to the society again. At present, there are two exhibitions in the hall: Harbin Jewish history and culture exhibition, which mainly shows the life history of Jews in Harbin from the late 19th century to the early 20th century; gazing architectural art exhibition, which mainly shows the achievements of urban construction and development of Harbin since the reform and opening up in the form of painting, photography and architectural models.

Harbin was the largest Jewish activity center in the Far East in modern times. From the end of the 19th century to the middle of this century, the largest number of Jews was 25000. They built a complete social system here. As an important place for Jews to hold religious ceremonies, the synagogue occupies an important position in the hearts of Jews. The New Synagogue will be built as a museum of Jewish history and culture.
architectural composition
According to the staff of Harbin Jewish building protection and renovation project, the restoration of Harbin Jewish buildings will be carried out in line with the principle of repairing the old as before, and the surrounding environment will be comprehensively treated. Taking the new synagogue as the center, the renovation was carried out by demolishing some residential buildings and some office buildings around the synagogue, the additional buildings on the wall and the surrounding low houses. At the same time, the appearance of the hall is decorated, the dome is rebuilt, the old appearance of the hall is restored, the facades of adjacent buildings are reconstructed, the surrounding environment is renovated, and the public green space and leisure area are newly built. The existing structure of the hall will be basically maintained, and "Harbin Jewish history and Culture Museum" will be built.
Development history
The old synagogue is located at 82 Tongjiang street, Daoli District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. Since its foundation was laid in Harbin at the end of the 19th century, its history has been linked with the settlement of Jews. At that time, Jews built four synagogues in Harbin. Here is the synagogue, also known as the old synagogue and the old church. The synagogue, designed by architect Katz Kiley, was laid on May 3, 1907 and completed on January 15, 1909. It was restored and completed at the end of that year after a fire broke out in June 1931.
