occupant of a tomb
Wang Chong (A.D. 27-about 97), whose name is Zhongren, was born in Shangyu, Kuaiji (now Shangyu, Zhejiang). Philosopher of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Shaogu is famous for his filial piety. Later, he went to Luoyang Taixue to study. He was a teacher of banbiao. He was good at reading, but didn't follow the rules. His family was poor and had no books. He was a bookshop in Luoyang of Changzhou. At first sight, he was able to recite and memorize, so he learned the words of hundreds of families. After returning to the countryside, he taught as a student. He once served as a meritorious officer in the county and a senior official in Yangzhou. He was dismissed from office and engaged in writing. Xie Yiwu, the prefect of Kuaiji, wrote a letter to recommend talents and learning. The emperor of Han Dynasty ordered a public car to be recruited, but he was not appointed because of illness. His ancestors migrated from Yuancheng, Wei Prefecture, to Kuaiji. Wang Chong became an orphan when he was young, and the villagers praised him for his filial piety. Later, he went to the capital and the Imperial College (the highest institution in the central government) to study. He was taught by Ban Biao, a Fufeng native. Wang Chong's tenet is the natural inaction of Taoism, and "heaven" is the highest category of the view of heaven. Taking "Qi" as the core category, the natural gasification of Yuanqi, Jingqi and Heqi forms a huge model of universe formation, which is in opposition to the theory of heaven man induction. It shows the characteristics of Taoism in advocating natural life and death, advocating thin burial, and rebelling against the deification of Confucianism. He verified his speech with facts and made up for the defect of Taoist empty theory. He is an important inheritor and developer of Taoism in Han Dynasty. Although Wang Chong's thought belongs to Taoism, it is strictly different from Laozi and Zhuangzi's thought in the pre Qin period. Although he is the advocator of Taoism in the Han Dynasty, it is different from Huanglao's thought in the early Han Dynasty and the popular Taoism in the late Western Han Dynasty. It took Wang Chong 30 years to write 85 chapters of Lun Heng. In Yongyuan, he died at home. Wang Chong's philosophical achievements are of great importance in ancient China. Lun Heng is Wang Chong's representative work and an immortal atheist work in Chinese history.
