Recreation Square

At the north entrance of the Recreation Square, there are three lawns surrounded by Dutch chrysanthemum hedges. In each lawn, there are nine green spruce trees, forming a green plum blossom. Beside the lawn, the high silver pole lights in the blue sky add some brilliance to the night of the square. The Recreation Square is located on the third North Road of Shihezi, directly opposite the military reclamation Museum of Xinjiang production and Construction Corps. The square was first built in 1984 and was reconstructed on a large scale in 1998. It now covers an area of 24.13 hectares and consists of four parts: the central, the East, the West and the south. In the middle is the central square, which is the main scenic area. The East and west sides are green spaces, and the south side is composed of green space and workers' Cultural Palace.
Square sculpture
There are a group of sculptures on all sides of the square. At the north end, the "monument to garrison troops and garrison troops" was officially completed on September 27, 2009. It is tall and grand, and is majestic among the sculptures and scenic spots.
Monument to the garrison
The main body of the monument is a sword with a straight body and straight into the sky. The body and handle of the sword are surrounded by sculptures of workers, peasants, soldiers and intellectuals. Among them, there are both Han and minority nationalities, representing the unity of brothers and sisters of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. The hilt is made of stone and decorated with beautiful and simple relief patterns. The main body is 35.9 meters high, representing the number of 359 brigade, which was led by General Wang Zhen in 1950.
On the east side of the monument is a piece of granite symbolizing the territory of Xinjiang. On the front side of the monument is written eight golden characters of "Garrison and garrison for thousands of years". On the back of the monument is a prose with the theme of garrison and garrison for thousands of years. Below the rock are group sculptures of nine Army reclamation soldiers, representing the three generations of the Corps. Some of them pull plows, some hold steel guns, and some hold grain, lambs and horses, representing the scenes of hard work.
The first plough of military reclamation
The sculpture on the west side of the square is "the first plough of military reclamation". The overall height of the statue is 4.1 meters, of which the main body is 7 meters long and 2.7 meters high. It is located on a gray marble base 9 meters long and 2 meters wide. The main body of the sculpture is the scene of plowing. Two people pull the plow hard in the front, and one is in charge of the plowshare in the back. The three men are naked. In their strong physique and resolute eyes, they have the will and idea to turn great plans into great achievements and sweat into great achievements. The simple military uniform, the primitive tools of labor and the heavy gait outline the unimaginable sufferings of entrepreneurship in those years. "The first plough of military reclamation" is regarded as the mark of Shihezi. It is this plough that makes the city take the first step. The plough pulled by the pioneers is the permanent memory of the city: the ploughshare of military reclamation soldiers, sowing ideals and hopes for the oasis.
Mother Gobi
The sculpture on the east side of the square is called "Gobi mother", also known as "frontier new movement", which is a monument built for women in Xinjiang production and Construction Corps. She is the representative of the educated youth in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Wuhan and other places who joined in the construction of the Corps in the 1960s. She is leisurely and quiet, looking forward to a bright future. The Uighur girl on the statue is the representative of Xinjiang minority. With her left hand on her right knee and her right hand gently on the ground, she sat peacefully behind her sister-in-law, enjoying the happiness of her family with her sister-in-law. The baby boy shows that there are successors in BINGTUAN's cause, which has been handed down from generation to generation.
General Wang Zhen
In the middle of the south end of the square is the statue "General Wang Zhen", which was built in September 1994 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Xinjiang production and Construction Corps. The main body of the statue faces north and is composed of a bronze statue of General Wang Zhen and a granite horse. The whole statue is 8.5 meters high. The base is engraved with four gold characters "General Wang Zhen" written by Deng Xiaoping. The whole sculpture is a combination of bronze and stone, with distinct primary and secondary, integrated and magnificent. In the sculpture, General Wang Zhen stands on a high slope with full spirit and a smile. He looks up from afar. That's the style of General Wang Zhen's expedition and vision of Shihezi new city in the early 1950s.
People will never forget that the people's Liberation Army, which just came out of the smoke of gunpowder, created the great pioneering work of opening up wasteland and guarding the frontier in New China under the leadership of General Wang Zhen. Now, General Wang Zhen's heroic words of "building a new city for future generations" have become a reality in the Gobi desert.
Shihezi Cultural Palace
Behind General Wang Zhen is Shihezi Cultural Palace. The flying eaves are just like flying wings, showing the new atmosphere of Shihezi's economic construction. The spherical glass skylight with a diameter of 18 meters in the center looks like a bright pearl placed in a pair of giant hands from a distance, fully revealing the image of Shihezi as a "Gobi pearl".
