Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan martyrs cemetery is located in the middle of Lingyuan Road, Handan city. The foundation was laid in March 1946 and completed in October 1950. Covering an area of 320 mu, the cemetery is divided into two chambers: the north and the south. It is the earliest and largest martyr cemetery in China, with the most inscriptions and inscriptions of the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries. The north courtyard of the cemetery is mainly composed of garden buildings. The magnificent buildings with unique national characteristics are hidden among the pines and cypresses. On both sides of the gate is engraved "martyrs' cemetery in Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan" inscribed by president Zhu De in memory of him; on both sides of the gate is engraved Chairman Mao Zedong's handwritten letter "how ambitious to sacrifice, dare to teach the sun and the moon to change the sky".

Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan martyrs cemetery, located in the border city of Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan four provinces, is the first large-scale martyrs cemetery after the founding of new China. The cemetery is to commemorate the heroes who died in the Anti Japanese war in the four provinces of Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan. At present, the cemetery has become an important red education base, and people from the four provinces come to worship each year during the Qingming Festival.
The Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan border region government was founded in the winter of 1937 and merged with the Shanxi Chahar Hebei border region in August 1948. It has a glorious history of 11 years.
Here are buried some martyrs, such as Zuo Quan, deputy chief of staff, Gao Jiecheng, President of the Bank of Southern Hebei (founder of China's financial industry), he Yun, President of Xinhua Daily, Zhang Hengyu, Secretary of the political power department of the northern Bureau, Lai Qin, the second president of the Bank of Southern Hebei and his wife, Zhang Zhaofeng, Secretary of the Military Commission of the northern Bureau of the Communist Party of China, Chen Guanghua and Shi Ding, leaders of the Korean volunteer army, and fan Zhuxian, anti Japanese hero.
In December 2016, the national development and Reform Commission released the list of national Red Tourism classic scenic spots, and the martyrs' cemetery in Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan was selected into the list of Chinese Red Tourism classic scenic spots.
On May 25, 2020, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of general Zuoquan's martyrdom, a memorial ceremony was solemnly held in the cemetery of martyrs from Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan. Sha Feng, the descendant of general Zuoquan, and all cadres and workers of the cemetery participated in the event.
Brief introduction to the cemetery
According to the spirit of the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the cemetery of martyrs in Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan was built in March 1946 to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs who died in front of the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army, the political department, the 129th division and the Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan military region, and was completed on October 21, 1950. It is the first grand revolutionary memorial building in the Republic of China after the victory of the Anti Japanese war. It is a national famous revolutionary martyr memorial site with early construction, large scale, high architectural art and beautiful environment. It is a national key martyr memorial building protection unit, a national patriotic education demonstration base, and a national hundred red tourist attractions.

The park is located in the center of Handan, a famous historical and cultural city with a history of more than 3000 years. It is divided into North and South courtyards, with a total area of 213000 square meters. The main memorial buildings are martyr memorial tower, people's hero Memorial tomb, exhibition hall (Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan revolutionary historical relics display), Martyr Memorial Hall (Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan revolutionary martyrs deeds display), Zuoquan general memorial hall, Zuoquan general tomb, 48 martyrs Pavilion, Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan people's Liberation Army martyrs cemetery, etc. More than 200 excellent commanders and fighting heroes who died for their country were buried, including general Zuo Quan, deputy chief of staff of the Eighth Route Army, Secretary of the Military Commission of the northern Bureau of the Communist Party of China, Zhang Zhaofeng, anti Japanese national hero fan Zhuxian, first-class killing heroes Zhao Hengde and Wang Keqin. The memorial buildings in the park are tall and magnificent, with quiet and elegant environment, green pines and cypresses, lush lawns and beautiful flowers.
The construction and development of the cemetery has always been highly valued and cared by the party and state leaders. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and others personally visited the cemetery and gave important instructions on the construction and development of the cemetery, and wrote poems and inscriptions. Among the more than 21000 cultural relics, precious historical pictures and inscriptions by Party and state leaders, the park has become the largest memorial site for revolutionary martyrs in China. The exhibition hall in the park is open all the year round, with an average annual reception of more than 450000 domestic visitors. It is a red tourist destination with unique patriotism education and tourism.
Architecture Overview
The north courtyard of the cemetery is mainly composed of garden buildings. The magnificent buildings with unique national characteristics are hidden among the pines and cypresses. A 24 meter high martyr memorial tower stands majestically at the entrance. The shining red five stars on the top of the tower symbolize the great victory of the Chinese revolution. Words: "the martyrs who died bravely are the greatest glory of all ages". The inscriptions of Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi and Zhu De are on the East, North and west sides respectively. Due north of the memorial tower is the memorial Tomb of the people's heroes, built to commemorate all the revolutionary martyrs who died in the border region of Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan. There are two groups of sculptures of "the Eighth Route Army" and "the militia" on the East and west sides in front of the memorial tomb, which are lifelike and respectful. On the east side is the tomb of general Zuoquan, with a tombstone inscribed by Premier Zhou Enlai. On the opposite side of the tomb is the memorial hall of general Zuoquan, in which the portrait and relics of general Zuoquan are displayed. In the northeast of the courtyard, there is a memorial hall for martyrs, displaying the images and relics of some revolutionary martyrs. In the northwest is the exhibition hall named by Liu Bocheng and the martyrs' Pavilion on April 8. The South courtyard is mainly composed of mausoleums. There are Memorial pavilions and monuments in front, and more than 200 cadres above regimental level and famous fighting heroes are buried in the back. North courtyard: it is a grand architectural complex with garden as the main part and national form, which is distributed among the green pines and cypresses. The banner of the gate is inlaid with the eight characters of Zhu De inscribed "martyrs cemetery in Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan". Facing the gate is the 24 meter high martyr memorial tower, which is engraved with Mao Zedong's words: "the martyrs who have died bravely are glorious forever." Inscription by Liu Shaoqi and Zhu De. At the top of the tower is a five pointed star carved by Bao Jin, symbolizing the great victory of the Chinese revolution. North of the tower is the memorial Tomb of the people's heroes, in which there are 317 heroic names of cadres at or above the regiment level. On the stone tablet connected with the tomb, there are inscriptions of Liu Bocheng, Chen Yi, Xu Qianqian, Deng Xiaoping and other leaders. To the east of the memorial is the grand Tomb of general Zuoquan, and to the opposite is the solemn Memorial Hall of general Zuoquan. The banner of the memorial archway in front of the tomb is the white marble tombstone under the memorial archway in front of Xie Juezai's inscription "people worship together", which was written by Zhou Enlai himself
"The tomb of Zuoquan general", beside the tomb, there are Elegy Written by Zhu De and epitaph written by Peng Dehuai. On both sides of general Zuoquan's tomb are attached tombs for the burial of Yang Yumin, he Qu, Gao Jiecheng, Lai Qin and his wife, Zhang hengning and Zhang Guanghua. The steles beside the tomb record the life experience of the martyrs. Opposite the tomb of general Zuoquan is the solemn Memorial Hall of general Zuoquan.
South courtyard: it mainly consists of mausoleums, memorial pavilions, monuments and martyrs' tombs. In the tombs, there are about 200 cadres above regimental level and famous heroes fighting against the enemy in the border region. The main buildings and tombs of the South and north courtyard have inscriptions of the central leadership engraved at dinner. The architecture of the martyrs' cemetery is majestic, the pines and cypresses are evergreen, solemn, elegant and spectacular, adding infinite brilliance to the ancient city.

The exhibition content of the martyrs memorial hall is "exhibition of the deeds of revolutionary martyrs in Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan".
Leadership care
During the war of liberation, Zhu De, Liu Bocheng, Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yi, Dong Biwu, and Yang Xiufeng "visited the cemetery several times in Handan road"; after the founding of new China, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Wan Li, Nie Rongzhen, Deng Yingchao, and Bo Yibo came first and later They visited the cemetery, wrote inscriptions and gave important instructions for the construction of the cemetery.
In October 1986, with the approval of the State Council and the announcement of the Ministry of civil affairs, the martyrs cemetery in Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan was listed as the first batch of national key martyrs memorial building protection units. In 1995, it was designated as the "patriotic education base of Hebei Province" by the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee and the provincial government. In the same year, it was named as the national patriotic education base by the Ministry of civil affairs.
On March 29, 2012, the martyrs cemetery in Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan held the unveiling ceremony of national 4A scenic spot, becoming a national AAAA scenic spot.
