It is the throat of Dongshan Island to the mainland. This was originally a ferry. During the reign of emperor Zongzhang of Tang Dynasty (669 AD), Chen Yuanguang led his troops to develop southern Fujian, which made Dongshan Island more and more prosperous. In order to thank Kaizhang king for his merits, people call the ferry "Chen Pingdu". In 1664 A.D., in order to cut off the contact between Dongshan Island people and Zheng Chenggong, the general of the anti Qing Dynasty, the Qing government built an 8-foot-high boundary wall fort at the ferry and stationed troops to guard it. Chen Pingdu was renamed "Bachimen". In 1960, the people's government built a seawall here to connect Dongshan with the mainland and form a peninsula. In 1973, 57 aqueduct piers were built on the Bachimen seawall to divert fresh water into the island. These two grand projects make the picturesque Dongshan Island more beautiful and enchanting.
