Chuxiong Museum

Located in the South Gate of Chuxiong City, it covers an area of nearly 60 mu, with a total construction area of 11200 square meters. There are 7 exhibition halls, 12 exhibition rooms, covering an area of more than 7000 square meters, including preface hall, paleontology hall, historical relics hall, nationality hall, local party history hall, calligraphy and painting hall, and animal and plant specimen hall of Chuxiong Prefecture of the Communist Party of China. It was completed and opened on July 21, 1995. Chuxiong is the hometown of Yuanmou people, the earliest ancestor of the Chinese people; the hometown of Lufeng dinosaurs; the earliest place where bronze drums have been found so far; and an autonomous prefecture of ethnic minorities with rich cultural relics. A number of valuable cultural relics such as Lufeng dinosaur fossils, Lufeng Lama ancient ape fossils, Yuanmou ape human teeth fossils, Wanjiaba bronze drum, etc. are on display in Chuxiong Museum. In addition, there are national handicraft embroidery, exquisite Yi costumes, Yi solar calendar, calligraphy, oil painting, Chinese painting, murals, paper-cut works of art, etc. which are a window to understand the history and culture of Yi state.

Development history

Chuxiong museum was built in June 1993 and opened in July 1995. It is located in the south of Lucheng, the capital of Chuxiong Prefecture. The design and construction make full use of the height difference of the slope land and lay out according to the mountain. The integration of Yi folk houses and modern architectural style design not only highlights the strong local ethnic characteristics, but also reflects the grand momentum of modern architecture. It is one of the landmark buildings in Chuxiong City.

Chuxiong is the hometown of Yuanmou people, the earliest ancestor of the Chinese people; the hometown of Lufeng dinosaurs; the earliest place where bronze drums have been found so far; and an autonomous prefecture of ethnic minorities with rich cultural relics. It is now a national secondary Museum, a national AAAA tourist attraction, a patriotic education base, a popular science education base, a national defense education base and an environmental education base in Yunnan Province, and a national youth civilization. It will be open to the public free of charge from January 1, 2009. Chuxiong museum is an important cultural window of Chuxiong, which plays a positive role in spreading the advanced culture of Yi state and promoting the construction of "Three Civilizations".

More than 6000 pieces of cultural relics were exhibited. The museum features the collection and display of fossils, bronze relics and Yi costumes. Chuxiong museum is a window to understand the history and culture of Yi state.
