General Office of Suiyuan city wall

The general office of Suiyuan city is located in the west of the drum tower in the new city of Hohhot. During the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of Qing Dynasty (1723-1735), in order to consolidate the northwest frontier defense, the Qing dynasty built a new city 2.5km northeast of the old city of Hohhot and stationed officers and soldiers of Eight Banners in Manchuria. It was built in 1735, the 13th year of Yongzheng reign, and completed in 1739, the 4th year of Qianlong reign. It was named Suiyuan city. It was under the command of Suiyuan general and under the jurisdiction of Monan Mongol princes and the garrison of Datong and Xuanhua. The general's office is built in the form of the first-class feudal official's office, covering an area of 15000 square meters. There is a tall shadow wall in front of the door, and a pair of stone lions stand beside the door. The former site of the general office in Suiyuan city is a cultural relic protection unit of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. After the completion of Suiyuan city in 1739, the general of Youwei Jianwei was changed to Suiyuan general, who led the local garrison and administrated Monan Mongol Prince and Datong Xuanhua garrison. The general office is located in the west side of the drum tower in the center of the city. It is built according to the specifications of Yipin fengjiang Dali office, covering an area of more than 30000 square meters. In front of the gate, there is a tall screen wall, with a pair of stone lions standing on the side of the gate. There are three halls in the courtyard. The front is the hall, the two sides are the East and West verandahs, the middle is the public house, and the back is the general's private residence. There are 132 houses in total. During the Republic of China, Suiyuan provincial government was stationed here, and the office of general Fu Zuoyi, the provincial president, is well preserved. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was once the seat of the people's Government of Suiyuan province. After many repairs, the Yamen office has maintained its original structure.
