Brief introduction to the temple
Chengxin temple is located on the west side of Shibaoshan at the southern foot of Hengshan Mountain. It was formerly known as the hermit courtyard. It is famous for the hermit residence of Tao Hongjing, the "prime minister in the mountains" between Qi and Liang dynasties.
Chengxin temple was built in the former site of Tao Hongjing reading hall. There are many relics about Tao Hongjing, among which the danzaohanyan is one of the eight scenes in Gushu. In the Song Dynasty, there was no successor for the Taoists in Hengshan, but Buddhism flourished here. In the eighth year of the reign of Jiayou of Song Dynasty, the "study wasteland" had become the residence of futu. Tao Hongjing's "Danzao", "Wujing" and "baiyuechi" are endowed with the magical function of calming the mind by Buddhists, so they are renamed chengxinyuan. In the early Ming Dynasty, it was named Chengxin temple. Until the Qing Dynasty, it was still one of the seventeen temples in the county. Chengxin temple was destroyed in the period of "Cultural Revolution" and rebuilt by private fund-raising in recent years.
