Jiaju Tibetan Village

This is the most representative Tibetan village in Danba. Hundreds of Tibetan villages are scattered on the mountains. It was once rated as one of the most beautiful villages in China by National Geographic of China. Because of its convenient transportation, it is relatively famous.

The Tibetan village covers an area of about 5 square kilometers and houses more than 140 families of Jiarong Tibetans. The Tibetan village climbs up from the Dajin River Valley to the foot of the kapama peaks. Taking a broad view, the peaks of kapama are like a kind mother, open-minded and gentle, with Ren Shanzhai lying in her arms. The best way to play is to visit or stay in Tibetan homes, drink a cup of ghee tea, have a look at the beautiful scenery outside the window, and breathe fresh air.

Jiaju Tibetan Village

Jiaju Tibetan village is located in Danba County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, about 8 kilometers away from the county. It is the most characteristic tourist attraction in Danba. In September 2016, it was officially approved as a national 4A tourist attraction.

"Jiaju" means a hundred families in Tibetan. The Tibetan village climbs up from the Dajin River Valley to the foot of the kapama peaks. The whole village is meandering along the undulating mountains. On the hillside with a relative elevation difference of nearly 1000 meters, Tibetan buildings are scattered among the green trees. Scattered or densely concentrated, or on high mountains and cliffs, or in the green of rivers and dams, cooking smoke curls and clouds from time to time. Together with the spirited valleys, clear streams and snow capped peaks, pastoral paintings are displayed in front of people's eyes in the form of art. In 2005, Danba Tibetan village, represented by Jiaju Tibetan village, was ranked first among the "six most beautiful ancient villages in China" in the beauty contest organized by China National Geographic magazine.

Location profile

Danba county is located in the east of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the west of Sichuan Province, bordering Daofu and Kangding counties, Xiaojin and Jinchuan counties of Aba Prefecture. The county covers a total area of 5649 square kilometers, governs one town and fourteen townships, and inhabits 15 ethnic groups with a total of more than 57000 people. Danba county is the gathering place of Bayankala mountains and Qionglai mountains, and also the source or flow path of geshizha River, yak River and Jinchuan river. It is known as "the city on the top of rock" and "the first city on the Bank of Dadu River". The mountains are rolling, the lakes are dotted with stars, and the forests are boundless. The local Tibetan people regard this as "snow capped on the top of the mountain, lush forest on the hillside, and sparkling sea at the foot of the mountain". It is a rare paradise hidden in the Hengduan Mountains. The magnificent and charming scenery, the infinite mysterious beauty Valley, the quiet and poetic local folk houses, the unique ancient stone watchtower and the colorful customs startle the magic and beauty of Danba.

Characteristic architecture

Jiaju Tibetan village is a unique Tibetan style building, with a family living in a village building. Generally, the village buildings face south. Some of them are close to each other in groups of three or five. Some of them are far away from the group buildings and stand alone. Zhailou covers an area of about 200 square meters, more than 15 meters high, stone wood structure. The existing form of Jiaju Tibetan house completely preserves the basic characteristics of Jiarong folk house, such as using original materials, adopting original technology, and maintaining the traditional and simple style. With the continuous development of history, some changes have taken place in some parts, but these changes have not affected its traditional style and the Tibetan charm of future generations at all.

The wooden frame and eaves of Jia residence are red. The walls above the second floor shall be painted with white or the primary color of the wall shall be mixed with white. The shape of the whole building is like the posture of a devout Buddhist sitting cross legged and praying to the Scriptures. On the eve of the Spring Festival every year, the owners of the village house, in accordance with the traditional customs, use the local "white mud" as the main raw material, fry it into white dye through formula, and carefully paint and dye the walls of the village building, so that the whole Tibetan village is dressed in white.

In Danba, there are many beautiful, simple and little-known local dwellings. Such rich and colorful, simple and elegant local residential resources are a wonderful flower of Chinese local residential architecture. For thousands of years, these vernacular dwellings have maintained the traditional architectural style and strong national characteristics, especially in Jiaju, Buke, Dasang, Dazhai, XIAOBAWANG, Qiongshan, suopo, pujiaoding and Zhonglu. Hundreds of dwellings are integrated into the natural environment, which embodies the concept of the unity of man and nature. The bottom houses are livestock pens, above which are Guozhuang room, storage room, living room, Jingtang and Jiaolou (family blockhouse). The second and third floors have patio and open balcony respectively. The external walls of the house are mostly striped with white, brown and black circles, and painted with sun, moon, stars and religious patterns, showing a beautiful and clean appearance.

1. If you are staying in Danba Hotel, just three kilometers from Danba hotel to Jiaju Tibetan village, another two kilometers.

2. It's about 60-80 yuan / car by car. Although it's only 4 kilometers to Shangzhai, the road condition is very bad. It's all dirt roads. It's 3 yuan per person to go back and forth to Jiaju Xiazhai by car. It's a 15 minute drive, and then all the way up the hillside. It's not hard to walk. About 2 hours is enough. Please be careful when driving.

All places need to go to Chengdu first and then take a bus to Danba (there are vehicles to Danba at Chengdu Chengxi station at 7:00 every day). Chengdu Ximen station has direct buses to Danba every morning, and there are minibuses from Danba county to various tourist spots. There are two routes to Danba, one is from Chengdu to Danba via Dujiangyan, Wolong, Siguniangshan and Xiaojin, with a total distance of 390km; the other is from Chengdu to Danba via Ya'an, Kangding, Xinduqiao, Tagong and Bamei, with a total distance of 520km.

There are also cars directly to Shangzhai during golden week and peak tourist season, which costs 5 yuan per person

3. There is a shuttle bus at Qiaotou outside Danba county to reach the Tibetan village. The fare is 3 yuan / person, and it takes 15 minutes
