Rugao martyrs cemetery
Rugao martyrs cemetery is one of the first 100 patriotic education positions named by the Ministry of civil affairs. It was founded in 1952, when it was located in the east corner of the people's Park (today's water painting garden). It was moved here in 1989 and officially opened to the outside world in 1992. The mausoleum is designed by a famous landscape architecture expert and Professor Qi Kang of Southeast University. It consists of five parts: Gate Tower, river channel, garden, inner square and memorial hall. On the north side is the memorial hall of the 14th Red Army.
General inscription
As you can see, the gate tower of the cemetery is tall and majestic, with a unique style. One big five pointed star and four small five pointed stars on the door emblem symbolize that the revolutionary martyrs fought bravely one after another and ushered in the birth of the people's Republic of China. The six gold characters "Rugao martyrs cemetery" inscribed by general Zhang Aiping are carved with granite and inlaid on the lintel.
Inner square
The inner square is the epitome of Rugao's revolutionary struggle and the place for activities to pay homage to the martyrs. A 27.7-meter-high monument stands in the center of the inner square to commemorate the establishment of Rugao county Party committee in July 1927. The body of the tablet is three inverted rifles, symbolizing that three battles were won in Rugao in the battle of Central Jiangsu. The base is a map of the administrative division of Rugao, and red pebbles are used to mark the locations of the three major battles of Gaonan, Dinglin and ruhuanglu.
The inner square is divided into five steps, which symbolizes that Rugao revolution has gone through the first and second Civil Revolutionary War, anti Japanese War, liberation war and various stages of socialist revolution and construction. On the north side of the inner square, there is a 7-fold wall to commemorate the seven victories of the seven wars between the Soviet Union and China; the 7-fold wall consists of 14 walls to commemorate the struggle of the 14th Red Army. The lower part of the wall is inlaid with 14 granite reliefs.
It reproduces the heroic fighting scenes of Rugao's children and the glorious course of Rugao's revolutionary struggle. The walls at both ends of the inner square are respectively inlaid with inscriptions written by the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries Zhu De and Chen Yi for Rugao heroes in the 1950s. On the west side is Zhu De's inscription on January 2, 1958: "the martyrs who died for the cause of people's liberation are immortal!" On the east side is Chen Yi's inscription in April 1956: "the revolutionary martyrs are immortal.".
Square tone
The overall color of the memorial hall is gray, which is the same as the "Meiyuan Memorial Hall" in Nanjing and the "Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall" in Huai'an. It is intended to commemorate Premier Zhou, because Premier Zhou often wears a gray uniform in major political activities at home and abroad.
History of the cemetery
The memorial hall is divided into five parts: hall, guide hall, hall of admiration, exhibition hall and lecture hall. In the hall hung a preface written by Rugao municipal Party committee and government. In the hall, there are seven temperament poems inscribed by general Zhang Aiping in Rugao martyrs' hall in 1963. The hall displays the bronze medals of 4000 Rugao martyrs and the portraits of more than 200 martyrs. The exhibition hall reproduces the revolutionary course and brilliant achievements of the martyrs in Rugao with electric pictures, photos and revolutionary historical relics. "The blue blood is everywhere in the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers, and the red heart shines on the mulberry and hemp fields forever. The colorful spring is growing, and the heroes and heroines laugh at the spring. " General Zhang Aiping's seven temperament poem is a true song of Rugao's children during the war. Rugao, a heroic land, had the revolutionary activities of Communist Party members in 1922. It became one of the 19 Red Army guerrilla areas in 1930. During the Anti Japanese War and the war of liberation, Rugao was an important revolutionary base in Central Jiangsu. In 1922, Wu Yalu, an early party member of Rugao, organized and founded the common people's society, published the newspaper "common people's voice" and publicized the revolutionary thought. In October 1926, Rugao's first party branch was established in ejiadai primary school in Xixiang. The branch is directly under the leadership of Zhejiang district Party committee and Secretary Lu Jinghuai. In July 1927, the CPC Rugao County Committee was founded in fucheng'an, southwest corner of Rucheng, which opened a new page in Rugao's revolutionary struggle.
