Xitou Nature Education Park

The climate of Xitou Nature Education Park is cool all year round, and there is an endless stream of tourists all year round. One of the most famous scenic spots is the red cypress tree wrapped with huge stones, which is hollow and decadent but full of vitality. Next to the forest road leading to Shenmu, there is a Cryptomeria fortunei forest that has passed for half a century, and its canopy is well protected. The staff of the park set up an air corridor for ecological observation of the artificial forest canopy here. The total length of the air corridor is about 180 meters, and the highest point is more than 20 meters above the ground (equivalent to 7 floors high). It will definitely give you a wonderful outdoor experience.

Xitou Nature Education Park

Xitou is located at the foot of Fenghuang mountain, Lugu Township, Nantou County, with an altitude of about 1150 meters and an average annual temperature of only 16 degrees Celsius. It is one of the experimental forests of the Agricultural College of Taiwan University.

Introduction to scenic spots

After planned planting, the fir, cypress and Mengzong bamboo forests are towering and green; in addition, there are also Cryptomeria fortunei, Ginkgo biloba, Larix gmelinii and other trees, which are good forest baths, with different charming forest forms in spring, summer, autumn and winter.

In addition to enjoying the forest bath, there are 60 or 70 kinds of birds everywhere. It is also a natural bird park. The deepest stream head Shenmu is now 2800 years old. It is a red cypress with excellent material, but now the tree heart is hollow and decayed. Visitors may as well watch the heroic appearance of Shenmu grandfather. Xitou is really a good place to go for an outing, and it is also a tourist attraction that can't be missed during domestic holidays.

Scenic spots in the park

University pool

It's named because Xitou is affiliated to the University of Taiwan. There is a bamboo bridge with a bow on the pool. Walking in it, you can swing from side to side. Occasionally, the mist floats up, just like a dream. The bamboo grove of Mengzong is always attractive for its beautiful appearance and peaceful atmosphere. Hidden in the bamboo grove, Zhulu used to be the mansion of Chiang Kai Shek. Now its gate is locked and closed to the public.

Xitou Shenmu

It has a history of more than 2800 years. It is 46 meters high and surrounded by 16 meters. It is a living giant red cypress tree. The middle of the tree is hollow due to the erosion of decaying fungi. It was preserved because of the low economic value of felling in that year, and has become a sacred tree for people to appreciate.

Historical evolution

（1） In the late Qing Dynasty, Xitou used to be a small village in the mountains and forests.

（2） During the Japanese occupation period, it was selected as an affiliated exercise forest by the Department of agriculture of Tokyo University, Japan, and sent to study in the summer vacation

Students practice research.

（3） It was planned to be a forest recreation area in 1970.

（4） In view of the importance of nature education, and to promote outdoor teaching and environmental education, it has been renamed

Xitou Nature Education Park.

The general period ticket price is 200 yuan NTD / adult, free for children under 6 years old; the general period includes January 21 to February 10, 2015, July 1 to August 31, 2015, all Saturdays, as well as continuous holidays (January 1, January 2, February 18, February 19, February 20, February 23, February 27, April 3, April 6, June 19, September 28, October 9);
