The appearance of the tap water museum is similar to the ancient Greek temple, with special architectural taste. The neoclassical architecture introduced by European engineers combines the architectural styles of ancient Greece, Rome and Baroque. In 1885, Liu Mingchuan, the first governor of the Qing Dynasty, carried out a new policy and attached great importance to drinking water sanitation. With Taipei's Beimen Street (today's Hengyang Road), Shifang Street (today's Bo'ai Road) and Ximen street, he dug deep wells to supply water. This was the beginning of public water supply in Taipei.
The collection of water supply museum includes pumping unit equipment, liquid starter, clean water pumping unit distribution board, air pumping, water level indicator, pool water level gauge, pumping unit equipment, raw water pumping unit distribution board, distribution transformer and other equipment. There is a projection room in the museum to explain the historical background of the waterworks in detail, so that the public can have a good understanding. The tap water museum is also open until 10 o'clock in the evening. For those who like to take photos at night, the beautiful lighting is the best time to view.
Water Museum
The Museum of tap water is located in the residence of Shinan District, Taipei, directly opposite the former National Defense Medical College. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with elegant scenery and convenient transportation. From the appearance, the buildings of the museum are antique and full of the flavor of medieval European architecture. According to the Taipei Waterworks Department, the waterworks museum is located in Guanyin Mountain, near Xindian river. During the Japanese occupation period, it was selected as the water source of Taipei and built the first pumping room, which was called the pump room at that time. The elegant and romantic neoclassical architecture was unique at that time.
Development history
The Museum of drinking water
The Museum of water supply originally means the pump room of the slow filtration field in Taipei water source area.
In addition, the Taipei waterworks office has opened some water purification plants in the residence, providing the public with both knowledge and leisure "intellectual tour", so that the visitors can understand the water purification process in a short time. In the right rear of the museum, there is an exhibition area for water transmission and distribution equipment, which introduces various water transmission and distribution equipment of different ages and functions, so that visitors can explore the underground "water pipe world". Because of the opening of water sources, Taipei water supply department has also built a climbing trail directly to the reservoir of Guanyin Mountain, so that people can climb the mountain and walk for fitness. In front of the water purification plant, there is a parent-child water playing area and tap water drinking facilities. The museum area with an area of more than 7800 square meters is open to the public, which can bring a rich "tap water tour" to the urban people at any time. The Museum of water supply has been renovated and opened to the public. In order to make the public have access to the information of this leisure place, the Taipei water supply department has compiled a beautiful introduction and set up a website to explain it in detail. I had a preliminary understanding of the museum before I left.
architectural composition
In 1977, the third phase of water supply construction in Taipei District was completed, and the slow filtration plant was demolished and rebuilt into a modern fast filtration plant, that is, the Gongguan water purification plant. It has been more than 90 years since the pump room was successfully retired. In June 1993, the pump house was listed as a class III historic site by the Ministry of the interior. The Taipei water works office immediately carried out maintenance and arrangement. On September 27, 1992, it was opened to the public for two weeks for the first time. The pump house was planned as a water museum. Later, the buildings were in disrepair for a long time, and there were many leaky structures, so according to the provisions of the Cultural Assets Preservation Law, the comprehensive renovation was started in May of 1987. Many photos and equipment about the history of tap water were collected, and explanatory boards were added to enrich the overall content and surrounding facilities. The first museum with tap water related equipment and knowledge as the exhibition theme was established.
In addition to the exquisite and elegant buildings of European style, the interior of the museum is equipped with pumping units installed on two floors at that time. Raw water pumps are installed about 3.5 meters below the outdoor ground level. These units pump water from xindianxi stream to the water purification plant for treatment by lowering the ground level and natural water diversion. In addition, a clean water pump is installed at a place about 2 meters below the ground level to pump the treated water to the distribution tank on Guanyin Mountain, and supply water to the urban area of Taipei City by gravity.
In addition, a briefing room is also set up to introduce the past and future of tap water with new audio-visual equipment. At the same time, a complete collection of early tap water related literature, photos and equipment, such as water meters, water supply, leak repair parts, etc., are systematically displayed.
architectural style
The appearance of tap water museum imitates the ancient Greek temple with special architectural taste. The neoclassical architecture, introduced by European engineers, integrates the architectural styles of ancient Greece, Rome and Baroque. The facade of the water supply Museum has a long string of semicircular arc columns. The internal roof truss is made of steel, the panes are cast with iron, and the whole row of green wooden window lattice in the rear sits on the stone washing steps full of historical traces, mottled and cracked The columns of the mark make the depth of field deep and wide. The facade of the waterworks Museum has decorated Gables, flowers and plants, etc., with strong European flavor.
In the first three years of the Republic of China, the pump room was completed and put into use, imitating the Baroque architectural style of the late Renaissance in Europe, with elegant shape and rich artistic value.
