General situation
Lin family garden was built by Lin Yingyin, the richest man in Taiwan in Qing Dynasty. In 1778, Lin Yingyin moved to Taiwan from Longxi County (now Longhai City), Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province. At first, he lived in Xinzhuang (now Taipei County) of Danshui hall. His son, marquis Lin Ping, followed him to Taiwan and became rich a few years later. In the 27th year of Daoguang (AD 1847), for the convenience of rent collection, the Biyi hall was built in Banqiao, which was the beginning of the construction of the Lin family's mansion in Banqiao.
In the first year of Xianfeng (1851 AD), Lin Guohua and Lin Guofang, the sons of marquis Lin Ping, built the sanluo mansion on the right side of Biyi hall. After completion, they moved here. Soon the two brothers began to build gardens behind the house. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Lin Weiyuan, the son of Lin Guohua, built a new wuluodacuo in the south of sanluodacuo, and expanded the garden, which laid the foundation for future development. With the strength of three generations, the Lin family built Banqiao Lin Garden. Lin's garden is the most representative imitation of ancient Chinese garden in Taiwan. There are Baihua hall, Jigu library, Fangzhai, stage, Guanjia tower, xiangyuzhen, yuebo waterside pavilion, etc. The garden is elegant in design and natural in arrangement. The whole garden is divided into nine districts, each of which has its own theme. The partitions are protected by houses, walls, rockeries, land bridges or pools, so that people can not see all the beautiful scenery at a glance, and have the feeling of infinite levels in the limited space.
Lin's garden has a large scale, exquisite workmanship and exquisite materials. The bricks, tiles and timber are from Fujian, and other stones are from Guanyin Mountain in Taiwan. The craftsmen employed from Fujian and Guangdong have excellent craftsmanship. The craftsmanship level of stone carving, wood carving, brick carving, clay sculpture, color painting and cutting and pasting are all of the best at that time.
With a total area of more than 17300 square meters (3.3057 square meters per square meter), Lin's garden was the largest private house in Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty. The construction of Banqiao Lin's garden cost the Lin family one million taels of silver. However, only two years after the completion of the garden (189), Taiwan was occupied by Japan, and the Lin family moved to Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, resulting in the decline of the Lin family garden. Lin Erjia, the son of Lin Weiyuan, bought land on Gulangyu Island to build a new garden called Shuzhuang garden. Among them, the curved bridge and other buildings have amazing similarities with Taiwan's Lin family garden. Today, the five new houses and the white flower hall in Taiwan's Lin family garden have been converted into low-cost dwellings. The Bi Yi pavilion has been razed to the ground, and the remaining three old houses have become historic sites for tourists to visit.
Construction process
Lin's ancestors came from Longxi, Fujian Province in 1778, and lived in Xinzhuang. They became rich in pinghou. Pinghou has five sons: his eldest son Guodong (drink), his second son Guoren (water), his third son Guohua (Ben Ji), his fourth son Guoying (Si Ji), and his fifth son Guofang (Yuan Ji). Guohua and Guofang are outstanding, fraternal, and cohabitating together. They are known as "Ben yuan" (the beginning of Lin Ben yuan's name). In the 27th year of Daoguang (1847 AD), the "Bi Yi hall" was first built as a place for rent collection. In the third year of Xianfeng (1853 AD), another "three fallen old great past" was built. In addition to the warehouse, there were 52 halls with a total area of 122a. There are banyuechi and Dacheng at the entrance of sanluodaxi. In the early years of the Republic of China, all the first houses were demolished. The garden was founded in the 14th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu and completed in the 19th year (1888-1893). There are "Ji Gu Shu Wu" and "Fang Jian Zhai" in the garden, and a pool and a stage in front of the garden. It is said that it is the place where Wei Yuan interacts with scholars. "Laiqing Pavilion" is a two-story building. It is not only a place for the Lin family to entertain guests, but also a place for distinguished guests to stay. In front of the building, there is a pavilion named "Kaixuan Yixiao", which is a stage. "Xiangyuyi" is a place to watch the flowers between the land bridge and dingjingtang. Every autumn, red, white and yellow chrysanthemums are in full bloom for people to watch. "Guanjia tower" is a two-story building. It collapsed in 1907 and is now a small pavilion. "Yuebo Water Pavilion" is a building connected by two rhombus, surrounded by pools. It is a fish pool for women's fishing. Dingjing hall, the largest building in the garden, is a place for entertaining distinguished guests and holding grand banquets. "Rongyin big pool" is located in the west of Dingjing hall. In the north of the pool, there is a rockery with Zhangzhou mountains and waters. Beside the pool, there are also "haihuachen", "diaoyuji", "haitangchi" and "yunjincong". The whole garden can show the standard of garden design in late Qing Dynasty.
Located on Ximen street, Banqiao City, Taibei County, the Lin family garden has experienced many vicissitudes. Now it reappears with a brand-new appearance, and adds another leisure resort for Taibei county. Covering an area of 5500 square meters, the Lin family garden takes about 70 minutes to visit. It was built in the 19th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. Its buildings are magnificent and exquisitely carved, and its total area accounts for about half of Banqiao city in ancient times. After the vicissitudes of history, the original wuluodaxi has become a forest of high-rise buildings, and the remaining sanluodaxi has been changed into a ancestral temple. In the future, Biyi museum will become an art museum. In the past, the garden of "Lin Ben yuan Di yuan" was renovated and renovated by the Taipei county government. It was officially opened from 1982 to 1977, giving people a glimpse of Taiwan's most extensive and magnificent ancient garden. Banqiao Linjia garden was started at the end of 1991, completed in 1975 and opened to visitors. The Banqiao Lin family is Taiwan's largest rich man. According to the survey of Japanese people in the era of Japanese occupation, there are three richest men in Taipei: Hong Heyi, who ranks third, has assets of 200000 yuan; Fan Shi Li Chunsheng, who ranks second, has assets of 1.2 million yuan; and Lin Weiyuan, who ranks first, is the fourth generation of Banqiao Lin, with assets of 110 million yuan, which is China's three richest man one of.
After the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, Lin Weiyuan built another garden residence on Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, which is called "Xiaobanqiao" as his residence and commemorates Taiwan's hometown of Banqiao. It is said that in 1896, it was said that the Japanese government intended to give up or let Taiwan be sold. Shi yannai, a Taiwanese man who lived away from Jinjiang, lobbied rich people from neiduquan and Zhangzhou to raise 10 million Liang to redeem Taiwan. At that time, Lin Weiyuan, who lived away from Xiamen, promised to bear 4 million yuan. What a "good amount" person! Lin family was born in baishibao, Longxi County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province. Lin Yingyin, the founder of Taiwan, and his eldest son, Lin pinghou, came to Taiwan in 1784 to settle in Xinzhuang, north of Taiwan. Later, he became rich in rice business. Marquis Lin Ping donated his official position to Liuzhou Prefecture. Later, he resigned and devoted himself to making profits. After his death, he separated his family and produced it in Wuzi. He said, "drinking water is the source of thinking." Wuji, Sanzi and Wuzi are brothers of the same mother, and they do not want to separate their families. Therefore, they are collectively known as "Benyuan". Their surname is regarded as the hall name, which is "linbenyuan.". Lin weirang and Lin Weiyuan, the fourth generation of the Lin family, pushed the momentum of the Lin family to the peak, and most of the Lin family gardens were completed in their hands. In the 13th year of Tongzhi, Japan launched the "Peony Society incident" of invading Taiwan on the pretext that the Ryukyu drifters were killed by the aborigines. The Qing government ordered Shen Baozhen, a famous official of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, who was the shipping Minister of Fuzhou at that time, to be appointed as an imperial envoy and to borrow two million taels for military expenses to preside over the defense of the Taiwan Strait. After retreating from the Japanese army, Shen Baozhen asked Fu Ken Hou mountain and mountain area, Lin family's great help. In the 10th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, the Sino French war spread to Taiwan. The Qing Dynasty sent Liu Mingchuan, a famous general of the Huai army, to preside over Taiwan's defense as governor. Lin Weiyuan donated 200000 Liang to help Liu Mingchuan run Taiwan's defense and take up the post of minister of reclamation. He became a "red top businessman" and got to know Li Hongzhang, Sheng Xuanhuai and others who had been in power for a while in Beijing. In the 16th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, he became the chief minister of Taipu temple. The year of Jiawu is the 60th birthday of Cixi. All the ceremonies were held at the 70th anniversary of the Empress Dowager in the 27th year of Qianlong. Seven million taels of silver were used, four million taels of silver were allocated by the Ministry of household, and reimbursement was made by all provinces and officials. Among them, Lin Weiyuan, who was the chief minister of Taipu temple, was the most popular. After making friends with Gong Qing of the same Dynasty and visiting the famous garden "Liuyuan" of Sheng Xuanhuai in Suzhou, he also built Banqiao garden to make it beautiful. Every brick, every tile, every stone and every wood came from Tangshan by sea, which is undoubtedly the representative of Taiwan gardens.
Lin Garden, formerly known as "Lin Benyuan garden", also known as "Banqiao villa". Originally built between 1888 and 1893, it cost 500000 taels of silver and covers an area of 5500 square meters. Courtyard architecture, employing famous teachers from mainland China, imitates the design of Suzhou garden, which is magnificent and antique. The following year, after the Sino Japanese War of 1894-1895, the Qing government was defeated and concluded the Treaty of Shimonoseki, ceding Taiwan to Japan. Lin weirang, the third generation descendant of Lin Benyuan's family, did not want to be ruled by other ethnic groups and did not return to Xiamen. During the Japanese occupation, the Lin family lived in Guangxu
