brief introduction
In 1899, when the British took over the leased land in the new territories, there was a bloody battle with the villagers. At last, the iron gate in the garden was broken by the British, and the war profits were transported back to England. In 1924, they were returned to England at the request of Xiangyan elders. This is now a common place for foreign tourists. In front of the village, there are old people dressed in rural costumes for people to take photos. Together with yonglongwei, taikangwei, Nanwei, Beiwei and Xinwei, they are called "jintianliuwei".
During the Ming Dynasty, which was built about 500 years ago, the descendants of Deng, one of the five most famous families in the new territories, still live here. In order to resist the bandits, the villagers of jiqingwei built a wall.
Walk in the alleys and alleys of jiqingwei, listen to the villagers' stories and feel the legend of jiqingwei. Once upon a time, there were even tigers in the village. Today, some old buildings have been replaced by modern buildings, but jiqingwei still retains its distinctive turret and moat.
Jiqingwei is a rectangular wall made of green bricks to protect the villagers from thieves. Jiqingwei was once occupied by the British army, and the exquisite iron gate at the entrance of the village was transported to the British war booty. Later, in order to show friendship, Britain returned the iron gate in 1924. There is a small temple in the village, which worships 15 gods.
Although Hong Kong has only been a port for more than 100 years, there is an ancient besieged city, jiqingwei, which was built in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 500 years. This besieged city is still located in Kam Tin in the new territories. Jintian is rich in soil and water. Many villages have been scattered here since ancient times. Among the local residents, the Deng family, one of the five largest clans in the new territories, is the richest. Deng
When he moved to Jintian, because the place where he first lived was surrounded by high mountains, he named it "cenli", and the field around him was called "cenlitian". Later, "cenlitian" was abbreviated as "centian", which was used until the 15th year of Wanli (1587). At present, there are still many descendants of the Deng family living in Jiqing.
The most remarkable thing about jiqingwei is the thick wall. In fact, the wall was built in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, when banditry was rampant, the villagers built the wall with green bricks to resist. Although some old buildings have been replaced by modern buildings, jiqingwei still retains its historic turrets and moats. You can still recall some of the past events of the ancient city by visiting here.
history
Jiqingwei is a rectangular building, covering an area of 45 mu (about 100 meters in length and 90 meters in width). The design is neat and symmetrical. It is a typical village building. There are 400 descendants of Deng here.
In the early days of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, Deng Zhuyan and Deng Zhijian built an additional 6-meter-high brick wall to prevent pirates. The base of the wall is made of stone. There is a muzzle on the wall. The four corners of the wall are built with turrets and chain iron gates. There was a 10 meter moat outside the enclosure, which was later filled up. Now only part of the moat is a few meters wide. There is only one entrance and exit in jiqingwei. Outside the entrance is a bronze plate recording Deng's history.
There is a small temple dedicated to 15 gods in the village.
Today, jiqingwei is still surrounded by an 18 foot wall, but with the development of the city, it has lost its luster. Most of the old houses in the enclosure are converted into modern buildings, and a few of them are higher than the picture wall, and even extend beyond the enclosure.
Tiemen incident
Jiqingwei is famous for the "iron gate incident". In 1898, Britain forced the Qing government to sign the "special section on the extension of the boundary of Hong Kong", and then took over the new territories in April 1899. The residents of Kam Tin, unwilling to be British belongings, took Jiqing Wai as their stronghold and launched a bloody battle with the British troops who took over the new territories. Finally, they closed the iron gate and resisted with walls and river protection. After repeated attacks, the British finally attacked with cannons, demolished the chain iron gate and transported it back to London for the exhibition of combat goods.
In 1924, Deng boqiu, a clansman, asked for the return of tiemen, and the Hong Kong government then conveyed the incident to the British court. On May 26, 1925, the governor of Hong Kong, Stuart, personally attended the ceremony of returning the iron gate.
The tiemen incident has been made into a film and is quite popular in Hong Kong.
