May 4th Square
May 4th Square is located in Donghai West Road, Shinan District, Qingdao City, Shandong Province. It is adjacent to the office building of Qingdao Municipal People's Government in the north and Fushan Bay in the south, covering a total area of 10 hectares. The May 4th Square was named after Qingdao as the fuse of the Great May 4th Movement in modern Chinese history.
The May 4th Square is divided into two parts: the office building of the Municipal People's government, the hidden fountains, the lattice fountains, the sculpture of the wind in May, and the 100 meter fountains on the sea.
The May 4th Square was named after the May 4th movement. As we all know, the great anti imperialist and patriotic movement, the May 4th movement, broke out in 1919. The fuse was the issue of Qingdao's sovereignty. Since the German occupation of Qingdao in 1897, the Chinese people have been working hard to recover the sovereignty of Qingdao. In 1914, after Japan occupied Qingdao instead of Germany, it aroused strong opposition from the people of the whole country. In November 1918, the first World War ended. In January 1919, at the "peace conference" in Paris, France, China, as a victorious country, attended the conference and put forward such legitimate demands as recovering Qingdao's sovereignty. However, it was rejected by Britain, France, the United States and Japan, and forced to transfer Qingdao's sovereignty to Japan. The news shocked the whole country. Beijing students held a demonstration on May 4, strongly demanding that they refuse to sign the contract, shouting slogans such as "fight to the death for the sovereignty of Qingdao", "return Shandong, return Qingdao". The patriotic behavior of the students was supported by the people of the whole country. In the voice of national opposition, the Chinese Beiyang government was forced to refuse to sign at the Paris peace conference, smashing the Japanese plot to occupy Qingdao permanently. Under the heroic struggle of the Chinese people, Qingdao finally regained its sovereignty on December 12, 1922. In view of the special relationship between Qingdao and the May 4th movement, Qingdao municipal Party committee and government decided to name the new square "May 4th Square".
The plant configuration of the May 4th Square is mainly based on the evergreen cold season lawn, with a group of pictures of juniper, Ligustrum lucidum, Ilex Guizao, Berberis purpurea, Rosa multiflora and so on, forming a large color block flower belt, dotted with pines and cypresses, Albizia julibrissin, winter resistant and other flowers and trees, integrating with the main sculpture and the natural environment of the sea and sky. It has become a landmark of Qingdao in the new century.
The symbolic sculpture "the wind of May", with a spiral rising wind, is in fiery red, reflecting the anti imperialist and anti feudal patriotic tone and national strength of the May 4th movement. It has become one of the landmark landscapes of Qingdao in the new century. The May 4th Square is divided into North and South districts, which connects the Qingdao Municipal People's government and is the central square. The Southern District is adjacent to Fushan Bay, which is Liangxin seaside park. Pitao central square in the north of yuzhaomo is flat, with a large green lawn in the middle. The square is surrounded by doujiaxie and between the lawn. Various exquisite mouth patterns are paved with Qingdao high-quality granite, and a circular fountain is designed in the center. The East and west sides of the square are high-rise buildings.
Through Donghai Road, you will come to the Binhai Park in the south of May Fourth Square. Along the central axis of the square, from north to south, there are sunken squares for outdoor performances, dryland lattice fountains and sculpture "the wind of May". The open-air square is composed of a semi-circular four stage auditorium and a circular open-air stage. The basement under the stage is the office and the general control room of the May Fourth Square. During holidays and major events, various performances will be held on the open-air stage.
It's a square flat ground. At first glance, it's just an ordinary stone square. In fact, there are nine vertical and horizontal rows of 81 underground fountains, which can be sprayed according to different shapes and heights. It's one of the favorite sightseeing projects for tourists, especially children.
Looking south from the fountain square, a tall and majestic torch shaped red sculpture stands on the semicircular square at the south end of the May 4th Square, which is the landmark sculpture "may wind" of Qingdao city. The 700 ton sculpture is welded with steel plates, nearly 30 meters high and 27 meters in diameter. The sculpture highlights the historical background of Qingdao as the fuse of the May 4th Movement and fully reflects Qingdao's recollection of the rise and fall of history and national honor and disgrace. The sculpture is surrounded by open green space, with lawns, shrubs and trees forming a forest belt. It can be said that flowers bloom in three seasons and are evergreen in four seasons. One hundred meters westward along the coastline, you can reach Qingdao Music Square. To the East 100 meters, through the "Pigeon" bridge, you can reach Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center.
On the sea surface 160 meters south of the central axis of the square, there is the first 100 meter fountain on the sea in China. The fountain is designed with advanced high-pressure water pump, and the gushing water column is as high as 100 meters, which is very spectacular. As night falls, under the light, the water sprays down from the sky like silver. The continuous water vapor turns into a piece of silver gauze, which comes slowly with the wind. The whole square is shrouded in clouds and fog, showing its endless charm and artistic conception.
In fact, there are 81 underground fountains in 9 rows, which can be sprayed according to different shapes and heights. In front of it is an open square.
China's first 100 meter fountain on the sea, the fountain design uses advanced high-pressure water pump, and the gushing water column is as high as 100 meters. Because the sea water is directly extracted from the sea, a distance of 160 meters from the shore is selected in the design, mainly to prevent the water mist of the fountain from corroding and salinizing the facilities and lawns on the shore.
"Fushan Bay", Qingdao is the only venue for Beijing to hold the 2008 Olympic Games, and this is the venue for sailing competition.
As you can see, it is an ideal place for the construction of sky type marine sports, seaside tourism and leisure and entertainment facilities. In the south of the area is Fushan Bay with open sea area, and in the north is the embryonic central business district with beautiful environment, convenient transportation and complete service facilities. In this area, the land area is 450000 square meters, and the southeast corner is a mountain green land with an altitude of 27 meters. The rest of the terrain is flat. The total length of the coastline in the harbor basin is 1300 meters, and the water area is 469000 square meters. The built 600 meter breakwater forms a good harbor protection condition. The construction conditions are unique. When it was examined and approved by the International Olympic Committee, this venue was the first to be examined and approved by the International Olympic Committee. At that time, we will join hands to cheer the athletes all over the world.
The May 4th Square is divided into North and south parts. Around the square, there are "Fenghe building", "Pacific Center" and other high-rise buildings. The tall and majestic building in the north of us is Qingdao municipal office building, 53.1 meters high, with 15 floors and a total construction area of 71521 square meters. It faces south from the north. The appearance of the building is simple and lively, solemn and dignified, with extraordinary bearing. The south side of the building is a square network, implying that the party and government organs are strict in style, strict in discipline, and dignified. Since July 1994, all departments of Qingdao municipal Party committee and Qingdao municipal government have moved into the office building of the new municipal government. The newly built municipal office building has become a landmark building in Qingdao. At the same time, it also marks that the "Eastward migration strategy" of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government has achieved the results of price segmentation, which has laid a solid foundation for further speeding up the construction of the eastern New Area and building Qingdao into a new modern political, economic, trade and cultural center as soon as possible.
After the completion of the May 4th Square, it has become the main cultural landscape of the new urban area in the East. CCTV and other units to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the May 4th Movement shooting production of the May 4th Square, especially the "wind in May" theme sculpture as the background of the special program broadcast at home and abroad.
