The Hong Kong Academy for performing arts, established by the Hong Kong Government in 1984, is dedicated to the cultivation of performing arts talents. It is the only academy in Hong Kong specializing in the cultivation of performing arts talents. The teaching building is located in Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island, adjacent to the Wan Chai Art Center.

Teaching construction
The Academy of Performing Arts offers bachelor's and practice based master's programs in Chinese opera, dance, drama, film and television, music and stage, and production arts. The school's education policy focuses on reflecting Hong Kong's multi culture, integrating Chinese and Western cultures, and promoting interdisciplinary learning.
Dance Academy
It has three major fields of ballet, Chinese dance and modern dance, and combines theory with practice, including technology, choreography, performance, dance and general education.
Dance students, especially senior students, are often invited to participate in promotional or practical performances organized by local or overseas dance companies, including the Hong Kong Ballet, the Hong Kong Dance Company, the city contemporary dance company, the PANA boshuppertal dance theater, the stugabare dance company, and performances by many outstanding choreographers.
Academy of drama
Students learn professional skills from the regular classroom, and further hone, explore and develop these skills in the performance. Students' performances will be presented in the form of on campus workshops and public performances. The theatrical performances are suitable for classical and contemporary theatrical works. Students will also be exposed to and learn traditional western and Asian theatre texts and techniques. The production of bachelor's degree programs is mainly in Cantonese, and some productions also have the opportunity to perform in Putonghua.
The Academy of drama holds a number of drama workshops every year to provide skills training in performance, directing, screenwriting, makeup, stage management, lighting and stage design for primary and secondary school drama instructors. The Academy of drama also provides short-term intensive drama courses for participants in inter school drama competitions every summer.
Film and Television Academy
The Academy of film and television was officially established in September 1996. It aims to become an excellent film and television education center to reflect and influence the production of local film and television industry. The college offers a four-year degree in film and television from basic to in-depth, with six major disciplines. Upon completion, the college will receive a Bachelor of Arts (honorary) degree. The purpose of these courses is to teach students about film and television production technology, to enhance their artistic accomplishment and creative potential, and to equip them to undertake various film and television creation, technology and professional work.
In addition, the course emphasizes the collective nature of film and television creation. The film and television industry stresses cooperation. Directors, producers, radio and sound designers, splicers, screenwriters, photographers and production designers are equally important. All members make creative and technical contributions to the overall production in their own positions.

The promotion of concerts and activities outside the Conservatory of music is an important part of music training. Every year, students will participate in various kinds of concerts, including the Hong Kong Government House performance concert, the special performance of various professional orchestras, and solo performances in different public or private occasions.
Academy of stage and production Arts
The school of stage and production Arts offers professional and creative graduate and undergraduate courses, which enable students with talent and desire to seize various opportunities in the performing arts and entertainment production industry to pursue selected and in-depth production courses in design, technology and management. Under the rigorous academic mechanism, the college provides comprehensive courses to enable students to successfully master various skills required by the diversified development of the entertainment production industry. The flexible curriculum structure can quickly respond to the changing needs of the workplace today. This is the way for the college to succeed all the time. It is also the place where it has won praise in this region and even on the world stage.
The Faculty of the college includes professional artists and production masters from all over the world, as well as visiting artists and resident artists from famous people in the University. They teach and communicate in world-class venues and facilities, which complement each other. The course covers stage design and production, science and art design, as well as art, project and stage management.

Chinese opera
Opera is a unique discipline in the Academy of performing arts, with Cantonese opera as the main course, and Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera and other local opera performances as the sidelines. Opera fully expresses the overall art of the theater. It requires a lot of skills in singing, acting, characterization, Gongjia, pomp and martial arts performance. Therefore, it enjoys a unique position of stage art and is an important part of Chinese culture.
The academy is committed to preserving, reviving and developing this traditional performing art, especially Cantonese Opera in Hong Kong. September 2013 is a milestone for the Academy of performing arts in the development of opera art. With the approval of the Bachelor of Arts (honorary) degree course of opera art majoring in Cantonese opera, the Academy of opera was officially established.
The course is supplemented by Chinese culture and literature subjects, as well as a variety of college elective courses, in order to enhance students' theoretical foundation, broaden their artistic vision of understanding and appreciating opera, and improve their ability of feeling, analyzing, performing and creating opera.
The essence of performing arts education lies in the performance itself. As one of the most important performing venues in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Academy for performing arts (HKAPA) launches many different types of student productions every year, including opera, drama, dance, concerts and solos. Student productions are held all year round and are welcomed by the public.
