Wufei temple, formerly known as "Wulie tomb", was founded in 1683, the 37th year of the Yongli period of the Ming Dynasty. The loyal and patriotic king of Ningjing thought that righteousness was impossible, so he decided to die. He told the five concubines of his heart, hoping that they would make a living by themselves. Since the death of Yuan Pei Luo, the five imperial concubines who had been with him expressed their determination to die, so they hanged themselves calmly. The king of Ningjing took care of his affairs, and after taking leave of the old and Zheng Kelong, he threw himself into the ring and died.
Wufei Temple
Wufei temple, located on wufei street, central and Western District, Tainan City, is a temple dedicated to the five concubines of Zhu Shugui, the last blood line of the Ming Dynasty. The place where the tombs stand is the Yin Temple where the tombs and ancestral temples are integrated.
Historical evolution
Zhu Shugui, the king of Ningjing, is a descendant of King Liao, the ninth grandson of emperor Taizu of Ming Dynasty. In 1664, he came to Taiwan with Zheng Jing. In 1683, the Qing army attacked Taiwan, and the Ming army was defeated. Zhu Shugui was determined to die for his country. After hearing the news, his concubines, Yuan's, Wang's, xiugu's, Meijie's, and he's, were hanged one after another. The king of Ningjing buried them together in front of the south gate Doushan, the next day to bid farewell to the old, calmly hanged, the end of the Ming Dynasty, the troubled country Zuo. Later generations felt that he was loyal and respected as the empress of the five imperial concubines.
The tomb of five imperial concubines was originally a tomb without seals or trees. After the sacrifice of King Ningjing and five imperial concubines, the tomb was built in 1748 during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, and a temple was built in front of the tomb to offer sacrifices. It was renovated again in the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, it was called the temple of five imperial concubines. Besides, there were "tombstones of five imperial concubines", "poems on the tomb of five imperial concubines" and "postscripts on the tomb of five imperial concubines" outside the Great South Gate to commemorate the loyalty of the five imperial concubines, The stone tablet is still preserved in the forest of Steles in Nanmen, and the wufei temple was renovated during the Japanese occupation. It was recently completed in 1997 and designated as a national first-class historic site.
