Introduction to scenic spots
Historical evolution
Linggu park is located at the south foot of Nanjing Zijin Mountain and east of Zhongshan Mausoleum. It is an important part of Nanjing Zhongshan scenic area. It is named Linggu park because of Linggu Temple.
Linggu Temple, formerly known as Kaishan temple, was built by Liang Wudi Xiao Yan in 514 to bury his master, monk Baozhi. In the Tang Dynasty, it was renamed Baogong temple; in the Southern Tang Dynasty, it was renamed Kaishan Daochang; in the Northern Song Dynasty, it was renamed Taiping Xingguo temple; in the early Ming Dynasty, it was renamed Jiangshan temple.
The Linggu Temple in the park, originally built in 1867, is a dragon temple. Although it is small in scale, it contains the parietal bone of master Xuanzang, which is extremely precious. The Wuliang hall, which is dedicated to wuliangshou Buddha, is also preserved in the ancient Linggu Temple. It is commonly known as Wuliang hall because it has no wood or rafters. It was converted into a sacrificial hall in the period of the Republic of China, and now it is a wax museum of 1911 celebrities. The altar in front of Tan Yankai's tomb is the original of Yuanmingyuan in Beijing.
Scenery
Linggu Temple was originally built in dulongfu of Zijin Mountain, which is now the location of Xiaoling Mausoleum of Ming Dynasty. In the 14th year of Hongwu (1318), Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor of Ming Dynasty, moved the temple and pagoda to build the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum in dulongfu and renamed it Linggu Temple. At that time, the scale was very large, covering an area of more than 500 mu. On the mountain gate, it was written "the first Zen forest in the world", which was destroyed by the fire of war. The present Linggu Temple is a cemetery for the soldiers of the national revolutionary army who died in battle, which was built in the original Temple site from 1928 to 1935. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was renamed Linggu Park, but it was still called Linggu Temple.
The gate of Linggu park is a hall with three arches, covered with green glazed tiles and red walls on both sides. Due to the south of the gate, there is a crescent shaped release pool with a length of nearly 100 meters, also known as Wangong pool. It is said that it was excavated by Zhu Yuanzhang using 10000 military workers. Entering the gate and passing the rain road is the Wuliang hall.
