Huijing Temple of bangzijing in Xi'an city is located in the west section of Dongcheng Avenue in Chanba Ecological District of Xi'an city. It is a temple with architectural style of Ming and Qing Dynasties. According to the local legend, the history of the temple can be traced back to the end of the Western Han Dynasty. After Wang Mang usurped the throne, he pursued Liu Xiu. Liu Xiu escaped the pursuit near the well beside the Niangniang hall and saved her life. She was so frightened and thirsty that she came to the well to drink oil man's bangs to quench her thirst. She felt cool and refreshing, and then went to the temple to pray. After Liu Xiu ascended the throne in A.D. 25, he gave the well the name of "Bangzi well" and built a palace, which later became "Guandi Temple". At that time, the temple was one of the Buddhist holy places in the east of ancient Chang'an City, with its pavilions, ancient cypresses, lush and luxuriant, majestic halls, solemn Buddha statues, morning bells and evening drums. In December 1936, general Zhang Xueliang, a patriotic general, intercepted the young students who went to Lintong for anti Japanese petition at bangzijing temple, and delivered a speech on the steps of bangzijing to dissuade the students from returning to Xi'an in time to avoid a bloody incident. Then Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng, two patriotic generals, launched the "Xi'an Incident" which shocked China and foreign countries. During the cultural revolution, the temple was damaged and 18 mu of land was occupied by local farmers for farming. At that time, only one ancient well of bangzijing was left. After the party's religious policy, a simple temple was built to worship Guanyin Bodhisattva, which was called "Niangniang Temple".
