The so-called rain corridor (corridor shed) in Xitang is actually a street with a roof. The corridor shed is mostly of brick and wood structure. Some of the corridor sheds in Xitang are close to the river, and some are in the middle. They are concentrated in Beizha street, nanzha street, chaonandai and other commercial areas, with a total length of 1000 meters. It can not only shade but also avoid rain. The most distinctive ones are those near the river. In the quiet morning and dusk, they stroll under the porch shed, with only their own heartbeat and some nostalgic feelings. On one side of the river, there are benches for people to rest. On the top of the corridor shed, there are "one falling water" and "two falling water", and there are also arcades to form the roof of the corridor shed. It can be said that it is a unique landscape in the ancient town.
The gallery extends from the street to the river, and the log pillars support a sloping roof (i.e. "a falling water"). The corridor shed is of brick and wood structure, with the most outstanding section in the middle, and two layers of carved patterns on the overturned porch.

(gallery shed) is a unique building in Jiangnan Water Town and a unique scenic spot in the ancient town. The so-called rain corridor is actually a street with a roof. Most of the streets in Xitang are covered with porches and sheds, so that businessmen, traders and pedestrians can pass without the worry of being exposed to the sun and rain. Gallery shed facing Nandai
The gallery shed facing Nandai has been built for hundreds of years. The shadow on both sides of the wall sinks into the river in front of the gate. When a gust of wind blows, the wet and bright still shadow disappears like ink. Such a place can be visited and even more livable. If you lean on the fence and wait for the moon to reflect the water, you will think of the past. As time goes by, the joy of poetry and wine of the friends of Nanshe in the corridor has entered the conversation of later generations. Thinking about his ability, I can't help looking up at the house and sighing. Walking in the corridor shed of Xitang, there will be a touch of sentimental growth in my heart. The shops here are still operating as they were years ago. These old shops seem to be cleaned old furniture. Although they are very old, they are still in normal operation and full of vitality, telling people that they are still playing the same role as they used to.
The origin of corridor shed
There is a folk saying: in the early days, there was a young widow surnamed Hu in tawan street of Xitang, supporting a family and a small shop. Hu shop in front of the beach there is a water tofu stall, stall owner Wang Er, young and kind, poor family. Seeing Hu's difficulties, he felt sympathy and helped him do some physical work. After a long time, in order to appreciate this feeling, Hu built a shed along the river to cover the street in front of the shop. I don't want to think that after the construction of the shed, the business of Hu's shop is particularly prosperous. After that, it was named langpeng, which means the shed built for Lang.
The book "Jiangnan ancient town" mentioned: due to the geographical environment of river network, the river, as the main traffic link, has played a fundamental role in the formation and development of the commercial city and the ancient town, "because of the water into the city" and "because of the water into the street". Xitang is a typical ancient town of water. It became a city in Yuan Dynasty and became a prosperous commercial city in Ming Dynasty. The corridor shed built along the river is the most characteristic building type. Jiangnan
