Architectural features
Style features
The mosque in Taipei is a temple with Islamic architectural style in Western Asia. Arab architectural design is adopted and Islamic law is referred to. The buildings include a domed worship hall, a clean water room, an auditorium office, a cylindrical arch ring corridor, a obeisance minaret and a courtyard fence. The main structure of the building is reinforced concrete, and the arch eyebrow and its many external walls are decorated with mosaic patterns. In addition, the round stone pillars on both sides are cut stone processing, and the main doors and windows adopt large floor type design. In addition, the two sides of the building more than 20 meters of the tower is also the characteristics of the mosque.
In terms of the interior of the building, the temple imitates the Turkish construction method. The dome of the worship hall is 15m above the ground, with a span of 15m, and there is no beam and column support in the middle. Because Islam taboo idolatry, in addition to laying Handmade Persian wool carpet and hanging palace chandeliers given by the king of friendly countries, there are only niches (mihailab (أمراب)) which indicate the direction of worship and other necessary reading and worship, so the venue is extremely open.
Main buildings
Green trees and iron bars surround the whole building. The temple sits from west to East. The gate of the iron bar goes up the stairs. There are three arched gateways. Inside the gate are arched gateways connecting north and south, which can pass cars. Entering through the corridor is a tall arched gate tower, with two domes standing on both sides of the gate tower. The top of the building is an east-west rectangular platform. The grand dome is located on the platform, and the crescent sign on the top is shining. There are two symmetrical minarets in the north and South inner courtyards of the mosque. There are terraces in the minarets for visitors. The main building worship hall, spacious and bright, can accommodate more than 1000 people worship at the same time. In addition, there are VIP room, Dean's room, office, water purification room and ceremony hall which can hold 400 people. It is the first mosque in Taiwan.
places of historic figures and cultural heritage
The appearance of the mosque in Taipei has a strong Arabic flavor. The main body of the mosque is the green dome worship hall. With the 20 meter high obeisance minarets on both sides and several dome minarets, the mosque is unique in Taipei, creating an exotic style different from the surrounding buildings. The dome in the center of the worship hall is 15 meters high from the ground, which is a typical Turkish construction method. The decoration and furnishings are quite simple. The whole row of non moving clocks outside the worship hall indicate the time and name of daily worship to Mecca.
According to Islamic precepts, there is a special water room in the mosque, where Muslims must wash their hands and feet before worship, and even take a shower to wash their whole body. Next to the washing water room is the place to wash the dead. According to Islamic funeral regulations, the whole body of the dead must be cleaned and wrapped in white cloth before burial. Without a shroud or coffin, they can only be buried in the earth. When they are buried, they can only be covered with a cover plate. In Muslim countries, the dead are usually washed in hospitals or at home, but this is different from the popular custom in Taiwan. Therefore, Muslims in Taipei usually finish their last journey in mosques.
There are not many Muslims in Taiwan. Ma Xiaoqi, the head of the Taipei mosque, pointed out that there are about 160000 Muslims in Taiwan, of whom 100000 are Indonesians. This number is quite different from that of more than 200 million Muslims in Indonesia, a Muslim country.
Islam's religious law is very strict, including detailed regulations on belief, behavior, and diet. It is well known that people should not drink, eat pork, or eat blood filth, dead animals, poisonous snakes, raptors, and lower animals. Muslims should not eat animals without reciting the name of Allah before they are slaughtered. It is also clearly recorded in the canon that people and idols, ghosts and gods, fortune telling, divination, geomantic omen and other superstitious behaviors should not be worshipped, and that people should not kill, commit suicide, cheat, gamble, invade others, commit adultery, break faith, waste, injustice and so on. There are very high requirements for morality, and there are also regulations for funeral, marriage and many rules.
The lessons that Muslims have to do are well known to all. In addition to paying homage to Mecca five times a day and gathering on Friday, there are also one month's fasting every year, having to give 1 / 40 of their surplus to help the poor and the weak every year, and at least one pilgrimage to Mecca, the holy city of the Arabian Peninsula, in their lifetime.
Visitors are welcome to visit the Taipei mosque, but they must abide by the rules. They are not allowed to make noise or eat. In addition, the main hall of the chapel is a place for Muslims to worship and meet. Visitors are not allowed to enter, they can only stay outside to watch.
History and Humanities
Temple value
Since its completion in 1960, the mosque in Taipei has always been the center of missionary worship for Muslims in Taipei. If the kings, presidents and leaders of all walks of life of Islamic countries in the world visit Taiwan, they will take visiting the mosque in Taipei as one of their important itineraries, including visiting former king fisser of Saudi Arabia in 1971. On June 29, 1999, the Taipei municipal government officially designated the temple as a historic site.
Since the 1980s, due to the influence of western strong civilization and media, as well as the differences between belief patterns and ritual taboos and Taiwan folk religion, Taiwanese Muslims who go to Taipei mosque for worship are not enthusiastic. During the September 11 incident and the war between the United States and Iraq, the Muslim temple in Taipei attracted the attention of the public and the media.
Nowadays, in addition to providing Muslims with daily religious and wedding and funeral activities, the Taipei mosque is also open to the general public and all levels of schools in Taipei metropolitan area for free visit and off campus teaching.
