Background
Tianjin is abbreviated as Jin, which means the place where the emperor passes through. It is also called Jingu, Jinmen, etc.
Tianjin began with the opening of the Grand Canal in the Sui Dynasty. At the intersection of the south canal and the North Canal and now the Sancha estuary of Gangqiao, known as "Sanhui Haikou" in history, is the earliest birthplace of Tianjin. After the middle of the Tang Dynasty, Tianjin became a land and water wharf for transporting grain and silk from the south to the north. Zhigu village was set up in Zhigu in Jin Dynasty, and Haijin town was set up in Yuan Dynasty.
From the second year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty, 1404 to 2004, Tianjin has been built for 600 years.
In the second year of Jianwen of Ming Dynasty (1400), Zhu Di led his troops to the south of zhigudu River to seize power. In 1403, it was changed to Yongle. The name Tianjin appeared in the early years of Yongle. Tianjin, as an important military area, was officially set up in 1404, the second year of Yongle. In the next year, Tianjin left guard was set up, and in the next year, Tianjin right guard was added. In the ninth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1652), the three bodyguards were merged into Tianjin bodyguard.
After Tianjin was opened as a trading port in 1860, Western powers set up concessions in Tianjin one after another. Tianjin became the frontier of opening up in northern China and the base of modern China's "Westernization" movement. The military modernization started from Tianjin, and the construction of railway, telegraph, telephone, postal, mining, modern education, justice and so on, all set the precedent in China. Tianjin became the second largest industrial and commercial city in China at that time and the largest financial and Trade Center in the north.
After the founding of new China in 1949, Tianjin, as a municipality directly under the central government, has achieved all-round development in economic construction and social undertakings, further consolidating its position as an important comprehensive industrial base and Trade Center in China. Since the reform and opening up, Tianjin's port advantages have been continuously enhanced, and its foreign exchanges have been further expanded. In particular, overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao, who originally lived in Dagu, have come to donate money to pray for their hometown. Therefore, Chaoyin temple has also become a link connecting the feelings at home and abroad. There is also a magic and moving legend about its origin: it turns out that people in Dagu area make a living by fishing in the following sea. One day, two brothers surnamed Liu were fishing. I lost my way when I met a big storm at sea. I didn't eat for several days. The boat was blown to a small island. The hungry brothers lay on the island and couldn't move. At this time, they saw an old woman coming. Seeing their hunger, the old woman took out a few grains of rice and put them into the pot. After a while, they cooked them into a pot of delicious rice. The Liu brothers were both surprised and happy, and they were very grateful. The old woman offered to go north with the ship, and the two brothers readily agreed. He sailed back the next day. All the way, the boat was flying, calm, and soon came to Xigu. The two brothers, carrying their grandmother on their back, went ashore on a zigzag board beside the Haihe River. They put her gently under a sour jujube tree to have a rest. She sat facing the sea. In the blink of an eye, grandma suddenly turned into a clay statue. The residents of Xigu realized that this is the lower boundary of Guanyin Bodhisattva to protect the people. Subsequently, the residents raised funds to build three thatched temples beside the jujube trees. According to the direction of Guanyin Bodhisattva sitting, the temple also faces east and West, facing the sea, named Nanhai temple. It is dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva of Nanhai. The year when the temple was built happened to be the second year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1404).
During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates were rampant in Dagukou area and were repeatedly invaded. In order to stabilize the people's hearts, the Jiajing emperor appropriated money to rebuild Nanhai temple, changed the civil structure to brick and tile structure, and wrote an inscription: Chaoyin temple. In the Qing Dynasty, Chaoyin temple was located at the beginning of the transportation of grain from the south to the north and salt from the north to the south, and it was also a fortress to protect the capital. It is said that Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong were both Buddhists, and they favored Chaoyin temple. Emperor Kangxi visited Dagukou in person. While inspecting the military defense, he paid homage to the Buddha at Chaoyin temple. Seeing that the temple was simple, he ordered funds to repair it in 1690. Emperor Qianlong also paid a private visit to Chaoyin temple. Because two emperors visited Chaoyin temple, the temple was proud of the second time and the people respected the second time. The residents of Binhai new area burn incense and worship on auspicious days, and the incense has been burning ever since.
Cao Kun, a former president of the Republic of China, was born in the southwest of Chaoyin temple. It is said that Cao Kun had the courage to know people since he was a child, and he was regarded as the king of children by his friends. One day, they found a gecko in the backyard of the temple. All of them ran away in a hurry. Cao Kun was the only one to tease the gecko with a branch without fear. The villagers told each other that today's little Cao Kun will be extraordinary in the future. In the early years of the Republic of China, warlords scuffled, Cao Kun attacked Yuezhou and returned home triumphantly. In order to celebrate the victory, funds were allocated to rebuild Chaoyin temple, and a picture of five lions holding the moon was added on the ridge of the main hall of the temple, and the word "Ping'an" was added on the ridge of the mountain gate, which made Chaoyin Temple take on a new look.
