Yuhu Park

Yuhu lake is located in the center of Xiangtan City, on the west side of the first Xiangjiang River Bridge. A bird's-eye view of the bridgehead shows that the lake is near the river, surrounded by willows, and the warblers are flying and the swallows are dancing. Yuhu, in fact, can be called "Liuhu". The origin of "youbifang" is as follows: in the Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty, two women were cheated into Xiangtan brothels. They were unyielding and died in the rain lake at night. The people of the city set up a square beside the rain lake for their two daughters. The tomb was inscribed "Shuangbi tomb" by the local tanhuashi Chengzao. Shufang said "Shuangbi is flawless", which was sung by poets for a time.

Yuhu Park

Development history

Rain lake has a long history. According to the historical records of Tancheng: "it is said that about 600 years ago, King Ji III of Ming Dynasty and his wife Xu traveled here in spring. When they met with rain on the way, they saw raindrops carrying money and thousands of pearls dancing. They were named after the scenery. In addition, Yuhu is a low-lying lake, so it is called Yuhu. " Guangxu magazine "Xiangtan county annals" said: "Xiangpu Tonggou, after the lake, change is called the rain lake. The upper is Yanliu dyke and the outer is Duoyuan temple. " It turned out that it was only a ditch connecting the Xiang River, which was artificially opened up to form a lake. The lake is divided into upper, middle and lower lakes, with a total surface area of about 360 mu.

Before liberation, the lake was silted and smelly. Some people called it Longxugou in Xiangtan.

In 1954, it was turned into a park and began to be dredged, and willows were planted along the lake, probably to restore the old "Yanliu dike".

After liberation, the memorial archway was destroyed and rebuilt in 1985. There are two statues of maiden servant girls beside the lake.
