During the Taiping Xingguo period (976-979) of the Song Dynasty, bhiksuni actively absorbed female monks to become monks and zhuangdaochang, and named the temple "TieGu Temple" to encourage monks and nuns to practice with iron heart. Because "Gu" and "Gu" are homonymous, and also contain the meaning of "iron heart practicing nun", the temple is also called "Tiegu nunnery" according to Lushan Xiaozhi.
In 979 A.D., on the Bailong bridge, willing lotus was enlightened by looking at Qingquan and lianhuafeng, and wrote the verse of "yunshenggong achievement" and "willing lotus faxing Zen", which implied that monks and nuns should not stick to the external aspect in their practice, but the inner skill of Zen, and said: "Phoenix and tiger descend to Bailong spring, deer, crane and tortoise bend ten or eight times, the pre chapter has seen kuanglu's face, the suspension bridge has got the peak mountain, the beach stream has the direction of light, and the head is empty A hole in the sky. " This verse vividly describes the wonderful scenery of bamboo spring under lotus peak, Phoenix, Phoenix, crane, deer, tiger and turtle. Master Shihan shandeqing, a famous monk in the Ming Dynasty, once went to Tiegu nunnery in the last years of Longqing and wrote a poem "give advice to Zou erzhan after passing the Tiefo nunnery". In the poem, it is written that "the green mountains on the river are broken, the water in front of the door is clean, and when you open the door, you suddenly see the master of the nunnery. It is just King Kong who is not bad. "An" is a small-scale temple, which mostly refers to the place where women who believe in Buddhism live. It can be seen that "TieGu Temple" has monks and nuns. During the Wanli period (1573-1691), monks and nuns in the nunnery cast an iron Buddha as high as six feet. Since then, Tiegu nunnery was changed into "iron Buddha Temple".
Historical origin
Iron Buddhist temple in Lushan has a history of more than 1370 years, although the relevant historical records show that it was built by monk Kunzhong Zen master in Zhenguan period of Tang Dynasty (627-649). During the period of Taiping and Xingguo (976-979) in the Song Dynasty, bhiksuni actively absorbed female monks to become monks and zhuangdaochang, and named the temple "TieGu Temple" in order to encourage monks and nuns to practice with iron heart. Because "Gu" and "Gu" are homophonic, it also means "iron heart nun". According to Lu Shan Xiao Zhi, Tiegu temple is also called Tiegu temple. In 979 A.D., on the Bailong bridge, willing lotus was enlightened by looking at Qingquan and Lianhua peak, and wrote the verse of "yunshenggong achievement" and "willing lotus faxing Zen", which implied that monks and nuns should not stick to the external aspect in their practice, but the inner skill of Zen, and said: "Phoenix and tiger descend to Bailong spring, deer, crane and tortoise lie in eighteen bends, the pre chapter has seen kuanglu's face, the suspension bridge has got the peak mountain, and the beach stream has the direction of luminosity "Dongtian." This verse vividly describes the wonderful scenery of bamboo spring under lotus peak, Phoenix, Phoenix, crane, deer, tiger and turtle.
Prosperous period
From the Wanli period of Ming Dynasty to the early years of the Republic of China, the Tiefo temple has experienced ups and downs, and has been repaired many times. It can be seen from a relic of the Tiefo temple built in the early years of the Republic of China, which was found by the relevant departments of Lushan mountain, that there were 32 family members who built the Tiefo Temple together.
Although the old monk (nun) of the temple recalls that the restored iron Buddha Temple has a considerable scale. The temple has 13 main halls and more than 600 Buddha statues. One of the iron Buddha is about two meters high, which is famous far and near and has a strong fragrance.
However, after decades of war, especially the cultural revolution, Tiefo temple was completely changed and overgrown with weeds. Only a dilapidated old hall was left. Many cultural relics in the temple were also destroyed. What's more, the six foot iron Buddha, the symbol of the supreme temple, was also destroyed.
Old style
Shi Miaoli, the current abbot, came to Tiefo temple in 1988. He saw that the temple is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with dense bamboo forest, gurgling spring water and surrounded by clouds. In the face of the dilapidated temple, master Miaoli made a great wish in his heart. No matter what difficulties he encountered, he would not shrink back. He must revive the old style of Tiefo temple.
The scale
On April 25, 1989, master miaolo led dozens of disciples to start the great project of building the temple. Ten years of ups and downs, ten years of joys and sorrows, honors and disgraces, master miaolo showed the will and perseverance of extraordinary women. The small temple of the past has been replaced by the large-scale buildings.
There are many pavilions, such as guanjian hall, nianfo hall, Daxiong hall, Qianfo hall, abbot hall, Nanbei Liaofang, Zhaitang, yinmiao lecture hall, 16 circulation places including small shopping department and garage, etc. they are scattered and purposefully built on the mountain.
The huge building complex costs more than ten million yuan, which is all raised by master miaolo. In the past two years, Tiefo temple has begun to build the main hall and the heavenly king hall within the existing area of 75 mu. It is expected that the total investment will exceed 10 million yuan to install gold for the statues of the eighteen Arhats and rebuild the Chaoshan road. After the completion of all these buildings, the iron Buddha Temple will add a new scene, and the monks and nuns will have another colorful, magnificent and solemn Taoist hall to promote Dharma and life.
protection of important historical monuments
At the beginning of 1986, Tiefo temple was listed as a key protection unit by Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province
The authorities approved the opening of Tiefo temple as a key temple. Zhao Puchu, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, wrote the "Lushan iron Buddhist temple" for the temple, which has been collected in the temple. Zhao Pulao doesn't want a cent for the iron Buddhist temple in Lushan.
