Located 5 nautical miles northwest of Zhoushan Island, it is composed of four uninhabited desert islands: Wuzhishan Island, longdongshan Island, mantoushan island and yaqueshan Island, with a total land area of 0.15 square kilometers. Among the four islands, Wuzhishan island is the largest, covered with lush green shrubs, while the other three islands have no vegetation and bare reefs. From May to July every year, a large number of summer migratory birds, such as black tailed gulls and Chinese egrets, come from the south, build nests on the island, hatch and breed. After October, summer migratory birds fly back to the warm south with their children. Black tailed gulls mostly nest in the grass on the hillside, and also nest on the rocks on the reefs. The bird's nest is relatively simple and casual. The black tailed Gull lays three eggs in one nest, two of which can hatch a pair of male and female young birds, and the other can hatch worms to support the young birds. Chinese egrets usually choose to build nests at dangerous places on the cliff, and weave them into basin nests with dead branches. Chinese egrets lay four eggs in one nest. After the egrets hatched their young, the couple went to the nearby beach to look for fish food and feed their offspring. In addition to more than 2000 black tailed gulls and egrets, new bird families such as oyster snipe, Daisheng and Kingfisher have moved to Wuzhi Mountain bird island. In 1988, Wuzhishan bird island was designated as a bird nature reserve.
Wuzhi Mountain Bird Island
Wuzhishan archipelago is one of the three major bird reserves in China. It is also the only provincial marine Bird Nature Reserve in Zhejiang Province. It is one of the important breeding places of wetland waterfowl found along the coast of Zhejiang Province, and has been listed in the list of important bird areas in China.
brief introduction
Wuzhishan archipelago, located seven kilometers northwest of Zhoushan Island, is one of the three major bird reserves in China. It is also the only provincial marine Bird Nature Reserve in Zhejiang Province. It is one of the important breeding places for wetland waterfowl found along the coast of Zhejiang Province, and has been listed in the list of important bird reserves in China.
Wuzhishan archipelago is composed of seven islands with different shapes: big Wuzhishan, small Wuzhishan, Longdong mountain, Mantou mountain, Yaque mountain, Wumao mountain and mouse mountain. The total area is 20.6 square kilometers, the beach area is 1 square kilometers, and the total length of coastline is 5.4 kilometers. The land of the seven islands is hilly. Among them, the three islands of Longdong mountain, Mantou mountain and Yaque mountain attract tens of thousands of different waterbirds to stop, inhabit and breed here every year. According to the research of relevant experts, there are 42 kinds of waterbirds, more than 10000 of which stop, inhabit and breed here every year. At dusk, it can almost cover the sky, forming a scene of thousands of birds welcoming guests. The scene is magnificent, and it is listed as one of the four wonders of the East China Sea.

Bird protection
Wuzhishan Bird Island Nature Reserve covers a total area of 0.2 square kilometers, inhabiting 42 species of wetland waterfowl, belonging to 6 orders and 9 families, including 6 resident birds, 19 summer migratory birds and 17 winter migratory birds. The birds on the island are mainly pelagic egrets, including heron, pond heron, cattle egret, egret and Chinese Egret. These egrets basically build their nests in different areas. Each island has its own territory and does not invade each other. The largest number of these egrets is egrets, which stay from the end of April to November every year. Egrets are alert and hard to get close to. They often take part in collective activities. If one bird takes off, the rest will fly with it. All of a sudden, it's very spectacular. The dominant species in summer are herons, including black tailed Gull and egret. In winter, the dominant species are ring necked heron, heron and spotted billed Duck. They mainly live in coastal beaches and bays, and sometimes fly to rice field farmhouses to look for food. Among the 42 species of wetland waterbirds in Wuzhishan archipelago, there is one threatened species in the world,
There are four kinds of key protected animals at the provincial level, namely egret, egret, egret, egret and black tailed Gull. When the population number of egrets with yellow beak reaches 160, the state will set up a reserve. Here, the total number of egrets with yellow beak is 3500, accounting for nearly a quarter of the population of the whole country. There is also the horned cormorant, which is the national bird of the Netherlands. In 1988, there were only 4 egrets, but now it has increased to more than 200. Black tailed Gull and Chinese Egret, as the main protected objects of the nature reserve, have been effectively protected for more than 10 years after the establishment of the nature reserve, and their population has increased significantly. In 1987, there were only about 100 black tailed gulls and 16 egrets in the reserve. Since then, the population of these two birds has increased year by year. By 1991-1992, the number of black tailed gulls and egrets had reached and exceeded 1000. In 1999, the numbers of black tailed Gull and egret were 2200 and 3500 respectively. With the increase of the population of black tailed Gull and egret, the role and importance of Wushishan islands Bird Nature Reserve in wetland waterfowl protection are gradually increasing.
