There is a Yutan tree (Magnolia yunnanensis) in yuancaotang. Youtan is known as the "Buddha flower", and the temple is named Tanhua.
In 1833, when the Kunming earthquake occurred, most of the temples collapsed. The abbot Xinrong and Xinzheng monks spent 17 years to collect money for repair. In 1857, the temple was destroyed by the war, and only the main hall was left. During the reign of Guangxu, monks Yuzhi, Guangfa and Xuliang once again advocated the construction of an temple. Before and after the revolution of 1911, the abbot Yingkong worked hard, and Tanhua Temple became a famous temple in Kunming. In the 1950s, Tanhua Temple attracted many tourists from the east of the city to enjoy flowers and tea with its lush flowers and quiet environment. In 1966, the Cultural Revolution "swept the four old", the Buddha statues of Tanhua temple were destroyed, and the temples were in disrepair. In 1971, it was changed into the nursery of Kunming greening team, and in 1979, it became the nursery of Tanhua temple in Kunming.
