Liyang Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park is located in the northwest of Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. There is a large relief sculpture standing in the garden, which vividly reflects the moving story of Liyang Shi zhennu's righteous rescue of Wu Zixu and Wu Zixu's return from Chu Dynasty. Nearby, the statue of Shi zhennu, made of white marble, stands on the floating pond of green lotus. Walking along the road, you can see an ancient pavilion in the double eaves garden, in which is the only well preserved stone well column in Tang Dynasty. This rough and bulky well fence is 54 cm high, 408 cm outside, 18 lines outside, and 91 characters are engraved vertically. Not far away are nanmu hall in Ming Dynasty and Tiemu hall in Qing Dynasty. In the wall of Fu corridor in nanmu hall, the imitations of Chunhua Pavilion calligraphy, known as "the ancestor of calligraphy", are displayed. There are only two and a half sets of stone carvings in China, half of which are preserved in Bieqiao Town, Liyang City.

Liyang Phoenix Park

Huansha girl

In the garden stands a large relief called "Huansha girl". Stone well railing in Tang Dynasty

Jinglan was built in 811, the sixth year of Yuanhe in Tang Dynasty. According to the records of Liyang county annals, the Jinglan was originally located in Lingling temple in Ximen, Liyang county. In 1090, it was moved to waibao'en temple in Dongmen, and then to nanmu Hall (Di's ancestral hall) in Licheng town. In 1991, it was moved to Fenghuang Park in Liyang County, and a "Tang Jingting" was built to protect it.

The shape of the well fence (i.e. the well circle) is like a huge bowl covered (upside down), which is made of stone. There are three round holes in the shoulder, which are distributed equidistantly, with a diameter of 5.5 cm. The height of the well fence is 54 cm, the inner diameter of the mouth edge is 86 cm, the periphery of the abdominal wall is 408 cm, and the thickness of the mouth edge is nearly 11 cm.

On the outer surface of the well fence, there are 91 characters in 21 lines in regular script: "in the sixth year of Yuanhe in the Wei Tang Dynasty, Xinmao was born at the age of six, Wushen was built on the 15th day of May Jiawu, and Salmone Chengguan built a permanent stone well fence and basin for Lingling temple. Kuo Tong, the great craftsman's Chu Qing, said in verse, "this is the Nanshan stone. In the future, the stone hurdles will be built and will be handed down for thousands of generations. Each one will be connected with Buddhism and try his best to cultivate merits and virtues. Those who share the same happiness will surpass those before Maitreya." It's hard to carve such smooth words on such a stone surface because the stone is rough and easy to break. Although it has been nearly 1200 years, the handwriting is still clearly visible. It can be seen that the calligrapher is an expert and the engraver is also a skillful craftsman. According to investigation, this well column is the only precious stone well column of Tang Dynasty that can be seen in China.
