Mengjin Yellow River wetland is located in the Wetland Nature Reserve in Mengjin County, Henan Province, where waterfowls gather, swans dance and cranes sing. On the vast Yellow River beach, it forms a natural picture of thousands of feathers flying and birds singing. In 1995, the 26km Yellow River section of Mengjin and 6206 hectares of wetland were designated as the provincial waterfowl nature reserve. Since then, with the hard work of the county forestry bureau and the careful care of the local people, this area has become a good habitat for birds. There are 6 kinds of resident birds living in the area all year round, such as heron and spotted billed Duck; 12 kinds of migratory birds passing by in spring and autumn, such as bean duck and silver gull; 22 kinds of summer migratory birds, such as egret and grey headed pheasant; 32 kinds of winter migratory birds, such as grey crane, white swan and black stork. There are 30000 rare birds living in the reserve every winter, including more than 10 kinds of national first-class protected rare birds. At present, 36000 birds have settled in the reserve, more than in any one year. Among them, Red Crowned Crane, great bustard, white crane, black stork and other national first-class protected animals, which are rare in the world, frequently show "respect" in this wetland. Many migratory birds have brought a large number of young birds. About 40% of the young birds in the national second class protected animals, such as cygnet and crane, are young. This indicates that the ecological environment of this wetland has been recognized by these migratory birds.
