Yueshan temple was built in the Tang Dynasty, when the name "Qingfeng temple.". In the third year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty, it was changed into Yueshan temple, which is still in use today. In history, Yueshan temple, together with Baima temple and Shaolin Temple, was known as the three famous temples in the Central Plains and the largest place for Buddhist activities in Northern Henan. "Baji Quan" is originated from here. There is a saying in the Wulin that "Wen has Taiji to pacify the world, Wu has Baji to fix the universe". The beautiful natural scenery and the world-famous eight pole boxing have attracted many emperors and generals to come here for sightseeing and pilgrimage. Emperor Yongle of Ming Dynasty, great music temperament scholar Zhu Zaiyu and Emperor Qianlong all visited here, and left a "the sun is blue, the color is more green, the moon shines on the temple more bright.". Historically, Yueshan temple is one of the four Buddhist temples in the Central Plains. There are Xiangguo Temple in Kaifeng in the East, Baima temple in Luoyang in the west, Shaolin Temple in Songshan in the South and Baoguang temple in Yueshan in the north. Yueshan Temple flourished in Ming and Qing Dynasties. At that time, the temple was large-scale, with more than 1000 houses and hundreds of monks. Therefore, scholars and even emperors of all ages often visited here, and there were many worshippers. It is said that Zhu Yuanzhang was a disciple here when he was in bad luck in the late Yuan Dynasty, and his fourth son Zhu Di also stationed troops here (now there is a cangbing cave); Wang Duo, a great calligrapher and statesman in the late Ming Dynasty, also inscribed a plaque "extreme view of the Central Plains" on the "Dashi Pavilion". Emperor Qianlong and Empress Dowager of the Qing Dynasty also visited here, worshipped Buddha, and granted plaques and couplets. The couplet is as follows: Gongde water is surrounded by Jinke and Yinyue, auspicious and auspicious clouds are ethereal, and the treasure world is fragrant. The plaque is: benevolence, endless light, six links complete. And a poem, that is, a poem as evidence: "the origin of the moon mountain, winding a path into the cloud pass.".
