Main attractions
Tuoshan cliff carvings
In fact, the reason why Tuoshan is so striking and famous is not only because of its steep peaks, ancient pines and cypresses, and the "ladder of heaven", but also because of its numerous grotto statues and "Haotian Palace" and other valuable cultural relics. It is a state-level important cultural relics protection site.
In front of the mountain, the cliffs are towering and towering. In summer and autumn, there are often clouds and mist around them. The famous statues of Tuoshan cliff grottoes are here. There are five caves and a cliff side by side between the cliffs. There are 638 Buddha statues of different sizes. The largest is more than seven meters high, and the smallest is less than ten centimeters. These stone Buddhas of different sizes are exquisitely carved with beautiful and vivid shapes. According to expert identification, they were first born in the Northern Zhou Dynasty in the late Northern Dynasty, and later carved in the middle Tang Dynasty. They are treasures of ancient Chinese statues.
For example, the statue of Bodhisattva in the second cave has a high crown carved with complex patterns and a vase on its head, with two streamers hanging down on both sides of the crown; a necklace with beads on its neck, with tiny wreaths hanging from the left shoulder to the leg, and a long skirt trailing the ground, giving people a sense of simplicity and vividness, which has distinctive artistic characteristics of the Sui Dynasty statues. If you look at the Bodhisattvas in Cave 4, they are decorated with a ring in the shape of a beast's head on the chest, with a slightly curved posture. This is a typical feature of the early Tang Dynasty. The most beautiful one is the graceful statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva on the left side of the Tathagata Buddha in the first cave! She has a round face and a dignified manner. She has a high bun with a string on her head, a horizontal line on her neck, a delicate necklace on her chest, a scarf on her shoulders, and a skirt close to her body. She looks like she has just come out of the water, and a liver of socks on her waist. The gauze like cicada's wings seems to be gently pointing. Her graceful posture is slanting and curved. According to textual research, the cave was built in Chang'an, Empress Wu of the Tang Dynasty, with a history of more than 1200 years.
Haotian Palace
Tuoshan is not far from the grottoes. The existing "Haotian Palace" on the top of the mountain is a sign of the prevalence of Taoism in the past. Haotian palace, 150 meters long from north to South and 100 meters from east to west, is a group of large-scale ancient buildings. It is divided into Qibao Pavilion, Yuhuang hall, theater building, dongxipeidian and Langfang, with a total of more than 50 halls, halls, buildings and rooms. The Jade Emperor hall is made of wood and stone with carved beams and painted buildings, which is majestic; the Qibao Pavilion is made of stone with no beams and double arches, which is of peculiar structure, strong and durable. In the south of the hospital, there are two deep pools, named RI Tianquan. A stone tablet standing by the pool is engraved with the two characters "Tianquan" written by Du Si, the governor of Qingzhou in the Ming Dynasty. Outside the south gate are "Tianhe", "Tianqiao" and "wulongchi". Not far from the east gate, under the rocks, there is a "Jinghai pool". The water in the pool is as clear as a mirror, and there is no spring at all. However, the pool overflows all the year round, and how to use it is not rare. This is Longqiu, which is recorded in the local records.
It's hard to know when Haotian palace was first built. People just find out from the 120 stone tablets inside and outside. It was rebuilt from the Yuan Dynasty to the 27th year of the Yuan Dynasty. Even from this reconstruction, it has a history of more than 690 years.
Giant Buddha in Tuoshan
Tuoshan Giant Buddha is another famous relic in Qingzhou. The main body of the Giant Buddha is composed of Bishan mountain and mohongshan mountain, connecting nine mountain tops. The face of the Giant Buddha is 2500 meters long, which can be called the world's first Mountain Giant Buddha. After more than 1400 years, it has become one of the important tourist attractions in Shandong and even in China. This mountain giant Buddha is located ten kilometers southwest of Qingzhou. It was chiseled between 552 and 576. It's amazing that the nine mountain tops are a group of ordinary mountain tops from all directions. Only from the location of Tuoshan, where there are many Buddha carving caves, can we see its real image. All the Tuoshan Buddhas worship it. The Giant Buddha is expressive, elegant, straight nose, thin lips, lifelike, and vivid in bun, Adam's apple and beard, which is rare in the history of human culture and world Buddhism.
