Hongya cave

Development history

Hongya cave, formerly known as hongyamen, was built in the Warring States period (314 BC) when Qin Zhangyi destroyed the Ba state. During the Shuhan period of the Three Kingdoms (226 A.D.), Li Yan led the second city building in Chongqing history. At that time, Chongqing was sparsely populated, and it was difficult to mine rocks on a large scale, so it was an earth city. Hongya DiCui

The Hongya cave was once covered with green trees, and water was stored when there were many trees. So a small stream seeped out from the forest and flowed along dayanggou and huixianqiao to the vicinity of Hongya cave, forming a waterfall hanging down in the air, and then converged into a trickle along the rocks from top to bottom. In the rainy season, the water drips down the cliff, and the water drops are reflected by the sun. They are all like green pearls and Jasper. Some scholars and poets call them "Hongya DiCui". According to the records of places of interest in Shu written by Cao Xuequan of the Ming Dynasty, "there is a hole under the battlements in the west of the city, which is called Hongya. It is covered with huge stones and waterfalls. It is also called Dishui cliff. There are inscriptions by Su Shi, Ren Zhongyi and Huang Tingjian in Yuanfeng period.
