Shanggantang village is 25 kilometers southwest of Jiangyong County, 86 kilometers away from Yangshuo and 125 kilometers away from Guilin. Provincial highway s325 passes through Shanggantang village 2 kilometers away, and crosses longhuguan to connect Yangshuo and Guilin.
Shanggantang village is an ancient village with a history of 1000 years. From the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty to the ninth year of kaihuang (589 AD) of Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty, it was the governance of xiemu County of ancient Cangwu County, which lasted for 700 years. Since the second year of Tang Taihe (827 AD), the Zhou people have settled here for more than a thousand years. For thousands of years, the name and site of the village have remained unchanged. The Zhou people have "worked hard to make a rich family, studied and became officials" and multiplied here. In Shanggantang village, there were 101 civil and military officials, including Shangshu, Jiedushi, Taishou, xuanzheng doctor, general, Cishi, Zhizhou, county magistrate, etc. Among them, there were 18 Beijing officials and 11 Jinshi.
More than 200 ancient dwellings of Ming and Qing dynasties have been well preserved in the village, which is very characteristic; the streets and alleys in the village are crisscrossed, and according to the planning of menfang, it seems that there is a legacy of Lifang system in Tang Dynasty; the Fengshui positioning of being close to mountains and rivers can be confirmed by the Inscriptions: "a picture of Gantang is the victory of mountains and rivers", "a picture of Taiji is Gantang". Buying bridge in Song Dynasty, Wenchang Pavilion in Ming Dynasty, gatehouse and stone wall in Qing Dynasty are unique.
In 2006, Shanggantang village was announced as the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council. In 2007, Shanggantang village was announced as the third batch of Chinese historical and cultural villages by the Ministry of construction and the State Administration of cultural relics.
In addition to the unique cultural landscape and convenient transportation, the natural scenery of the village is also unforgettable. Song Dynasty people once summed up the image of "Chongling Zhoushi xishansheng, how many poets to carry forward, I can't describe them, a picture of Taiji is sweet Tang." The eight scenery poems of Gantang in Ming Dynasty further summarized the scenery of Gantang as "graceful and beautiful Mount angshan, fisherman in Qingjian, Xiaodu in Gantang, shigeng in Dushi, hermit in Shanting, sunset in Guishan, clear clouds in Xiling and bell in Fangsi". Behind Gantang village lies the winding Pingfeng mountains, with Qifeng mountain and angshan mountain as the green dragon and white tiger on the left and right. Pingfeng gathers Qi. In front, Guishan mountain is the near case and the west mountain is the far case, with a broad vision. In front of the village, xiemu river is the jade belt, with mountains and rivers. Green mountains, green water, small bridges and people make up a natural landscape.
