Bagongshan Forest Park is a provincial forest park approved by the former Ministry of forestry in 1992. It is a national AA scenic spot and is located one kilometer outside the north gate of Chengguan, Shouxian, a famous historical and cultural city in China. In 2001, Bagong mountain was approved as a national geopark.
In 2002, Bagongshan Nantang Forest Park and Bagongshan Forest Park were merged into Bagongshan Forest Park, which was approved as National Forest Park by the State Forestry Administration.
In 2003, Bagongshan scenic area was rated as national AAAA tourist area.
History and culture
Bagong mountain got its name from the story of Liu An, the king of Huainan in the Han Dynasty, and "Bagong" who became an immortal. It is said that Liu An, the grandson of Liu Bang, the great ancestor of the Han Dynasty, and the king of Huainan, gathered his disciples here to preach scriptures, write books, build furnaces and refine alchemy, and seek the art of immortality. Among its thousands of disciples, eight of them are the most famous. They are Su Fei, Li Shang, Tian you, Jin Chang, Lei Bei, Mao Bei, Zuo Wu and Wu Bin. They were called "eight masters" at that time.
