Changxi Village

Changxi ancient village is known as "the first village in Shenan". The whole village is surrounded by mountains, and Changyuan river flows in front of the village. When we were about to enter Changxi village, an ancient tree, a water wheel and a river were first seen, which immediately gave us an extraordinary feeling. This is one of the places where peach blossom trees grow most intensively in Huizhou. There are also many ancient camphor trees with thousands of years old and luxuriant branches and leaves. In spring and autumn, many kinds of plants are colorful, which together outline a wonderful picture. The continuation of history has led to a mix of the old and the new in the village. There are new shops and old workshops on the streets. You might as well have a look at the blacksmith shop and bamboo ware shop on the road.

Changxi Village

Changxi village is a demonstration village of new socialist countryside in Huangshan City and a famous historical and cultural village in Anhui Province. It is the residence of Changxi township government.

Changxi, built in the Tang Dynasty, is known as "the first village in ancient Shenan township" for its beautiful mountains, splendid culture, numerous celebrities and pure customs. This ancient village is 30 kilometers away from Shexian County, a famous historical and cultural city in China, and 7 kilometers away from Xin'anjiang, a famous landscape gallery

In December 2018, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development plans to list Changxi village in the fifth batch of Chinese traditional villages.

In January 2019, Changxi village was selected as the seventh batch of famous historical and cultural villages in China.

On June 6, 2019, it will be included in the list of the fifth batch of Chinese traditional villages.

In March 2020, the village, as the second batch of single village museums, will enter the Digital Museum of traditional Chinese villages.

Historical evolution

Changxi village, formerly known as Cangxi, has a history of human activities as early as the Han Dynasty, with a history of 2000 years. In the Tang Dynasty, Yao, ye, Zhu, Fang and Wang lived here. During the Chunxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty, after the Wu family moved in, it was renamed Cangxi as Changxi, and the Wu family became the main family name here. The whole village is built in a small basin near mountains and rivers, with humid climate and abundant water resources, which is suitable for the growth of crops and population.

Changxi river was navigable in history, and an official road was opened in the middle of Qing Dynasty, which provided convenience for the later development of Changxi river. The village is surrounded by winding mountains with high trees and dense forests, which is conducive to garrison troops militarily. Because of this, the army of Zhu Yuanzhang and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom stationed troops here to rest in history. In 1930s, it was one of the important bases of Anhui Zhejiang detachment of the New Fourth Army.

Cultural relics

Facing south from the north, the Changxi River, which is more than 70 meters wide, is the screen in front of the village, and the Lailong mountain is the barrier. Since the Ming Dynasty, there have been three kilometers of ancient buildings, including Shuikou, stone arch bridges, pavilions, academies, schools, ancient temples, ancestral halls and houses, from Xijing nunnery in the west to wubentang in the East, forming a north-south Avenue with front streets and back roads. More than 200 lanes crisscross the village. People who come here for the first time can't tell the difference between East, West, North and South if they go deep into it. There are two streams, datangkeng and xiaotangkeng, passing through the streets and converging at miaotan, forming a beautiful "s" shape and flowing into Changxi river. In the village, there are more than 20 ponds, more ancient wells and numerous houses, which are intricate and confusing, just like a labyrinth. The small river in front of the village is gurgling, the pond in the village is sparkling, and the well water in the water inlet and courtyard in the village is not only conducive to water storage, flood discharge and fire fighting, but also improves the microclimate, beautifies the village environment, and makes people live in a comfortable and pleasant environment year by year. The layout of the whole village is ancient and magnificent.

In the Southern Song Dynasty, the descendants of Changxi people multiplied and the population increased sharply. Due to the restriction of cultivated land, they sought to develop outward. Since the Song Dynasty, some residents went out to do business and study, and took part in the imperial examination, gradually forming a pattern of integration of government, business and learning. There is a legend of two Jinshi, five Juren, twenty-two Xiucai and the first place in Gongju examination. There are famous representatives of Hui merchants in Ming and Qing Dynasties - "Wu Cha" and "Zhou Qi". After the development of Changxi Hui merchants, they went back to their hometown to build houses, temples, pavilions, water conservancy, environment management, academies, etc. by the end of the Qing Dynasty, they had built an architectural pattern of four East-West corridors, nearly 800 dwellings, more than 20 ancestral temples, seven temples, and five nunneries. Even now, there are 201 ancient buildings of song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties in Changxi, such as "Zhonglie Temple", "Taihu ancestral temple", "Zhou ancestral temple" and "Wu Chengshi's former residence". The wooden memorial archway of "Yuangong ancestral temple" is unique in Jiangnan.

In early 2008, when Changxi Township implemented village level regional adjustment, the original four administrative villages of Hongqi, Hongxin, Changyuan and michuan were merged and named Changxi village. Changxi village governs 8 villager groups, with 3444 people from 1203 households. There are 2070 labors in the village, including 1170 migrant workers. The total area of Changxi village is 4.56 square kilometers, with 9916 mu of agricultural land, including 297 mu of cultivated land, 3278 mu of garden land (including 2356 mu of tea garden and 229 mu of mulberry garden), and 6341 mu of forest land. In 2009, the total income of rural economy was 63.95 million yuan, including agricultural income of 6.29 million yuan, industrial income of 28.55 million yuan and per capita net income of farmers of 5874 yuan.

Organization structure

There are 153 party members in the general Party branch of Changxi village, which has five party branches. Both the general Party branch and each party branch have party member activity rooms and open columns for party affairs and government affairs. Since Changxi village was built in Tang Dynasty, it has a history of more than 1300 years and has profound cultural heritage. There are not only provincial protection units such as "Yuangong branch ancestral hall" and "Zhou ancestral hall", but also three well preserved ancient residential buildings such as "YANWO villa", "jiuzixiang" and "Zhou ancient village". Changyuan river passes around the village with sparkling scenery and rich rural tourism resources. The two committees of Changxi village unite with each other and keep pace with the times. While constantly learning and improving the quality of the leading group, they fully tap the resource advantages of the village and take effective measures. They closely focus on "consolidating and improving the planting industry, cultivating and developing large-scale breeding industry, innovating and developing private enterprises, and encouraging farmers to transfer labor force" In order to promote the sound and rapid economic and social development of Changxi village.

On December 25, 2019, it will be included in the first batch of National Forest Village list.

On February 27, 2020, it will be selected as the second batch of key demonstration villages of beautiful villages in Anhui Province in 2019.
