Historical evolution
Speaking of the history of Canggu temple, people usually trace it back to the Tubo Dynasty in the 7th century. It is said that during the summer, the floods in the upper reaches of the Lhasa river flowed down to the Lhasa River, causing a sudden explosion of the Lhasa River. As a result, floods often occurred, which affected the farmland and villages on both sides of the Lhasa River and brought great disaster and loss to the people. In order to eliminate the harm of Lhasa River to the people and Lhasa City, King Songzanganbu of Tibet dug a hole in the embankment of Lhasa River, closed his eyes and chanted sutras, praying to eliminate the flood, make the people live in peace and make them happy. Later, people called the underground cave practiced by King Songzanganbu of Tibet "Canggu", which means underground cave.
In the 12th century A.D., a man called a miracle doctor, jeva Ben, once closed his eyes to practice in the practice cave. It is said that this great achievement has made this well-known practice cave even more famous. In the 15th century, gujuedodan, the proud disciple of master zongkaba, formally built Canggu temple on the basis of the practice cave, but the scale of the temple was not very large at that time. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the large-scale expansion funded by papang karenpoj and 90th Gandan Chiba qiangbaqza gradually formed the scale of today.
Before liberation, many nobles sent their daughters to canggonggu temple to practice, in order to avoid the high dowry when they married their daughters. In Tibetan female writer Qu Zhen's novel the God of sexlessness, the heroine Yang Zhen Zhuoma is the unfortunate woman who suffered this fate. Different from Arnie, who was born in poverty, these noble ladies lived in the small building built by their father and brother. They could not only avoid labor, but also have servants to serve them. The cultivation of the ancient Green Lantern Buddha can not suppress the pursuit of love. Many noble Arnie have private contacts with their lovers, and even take them to private meetings in the temple. There is a ballad in Tibet, which is said to summarize the characteristics of the four ani temples in Lhasa: "the nuns of the miqinre Temple practice on the top of the cliff; the nuns of the Gali Temple graze in the deep mountains; the nuns of the Langgu Temple drink in the Buddhist hall; only the nuns of the Canggu Temple practice Buddhism and live a secular life."
Construction scale
The main hall of Canggu temple is not very large. It is divided into upper and lower floors. The upper floor is the Sutra hall. The door of the hall rises along the steps. On both sides of the door are painted murals of the four heavenly kings, with eaves and door pillars carved, almost the same as other Tibetan Buddhist temples. Above the doorpost are the traditional Sphinx and human face pillar heads. Canggu temple is mainly for 11 Avalokitesvara Bodhisattvas, Manjusri Bodhisattva, wuliangshou Buddha, zongkaba master and 13 thangkas since Ming and Qing Dynasties. Canggu temple is most famous for its Songzan Ganbu cave on the ground floor of the main Buddha Hall. There is a statue of Songzanganbu, king of Tubo, in the cave. Every day, three full-time nuns chant sutras and pray, place offerings or replace lamp oil.
Source of income
Canggu temple's economic source mainly depends on the benefactor's offering and the religious people's donation. In addition, to make up for the shortage, the temple also opened teahouses, restaurants and clinics nearby. However, most of these business entities are charitable in nature. They are not only of good quality and low price, but also of good service. Most of the nunneries in the temple are built by nuns themselves, and the property rights belong to the temple. After the nun dies or returns to the secular life, if there is no apprentice who can inherit the nun's house, the house will be recovered by the temple and sold to other nuns, and the money from the sale will be paid into the temple's provident fund. The personal sources of living of the nuns are that the nuns with better family conditions are provided by their families; other nuns rely on the income of going out to engage in Buddhist activities; a few poor nuns also rely on the meager income of washing other people's clothes.
Internal management
As the management organization of Canggu temple, the temple management committee is composed of four members, namely the director, vice director and two members. They have their own division of labor and are in charge of the religious and business affairs of the temple. In addition, according to the level of practice, there are deacon tutors and Weng Ze (i.e. master of Sutra), who are responsible for daily discipline supervision and Buddhist activities. There is a storehouse in charge of giving. Three younger nuns take turns every two years according to the level of study. The rest of the money will be handed over to the next round. In addition, there are 20 young nuns who are responsible for daily affairs such as temple kitchen.
personnel
There are many women who want to become nuns in the temple, but the houses and facilities in the temple are limited, so we can only implement a strict examination system and select excellent people to enter the temple. Specifically speaking, you can recite 500 pages of scriptures fluently to enter Canggu temple. It takes a long time to recite scriptures. Some women can't pass the examination after reciting them for 16 years.
Canggu temple has 100 monks and nuns, but now there are 87 monks and nuns. Most of them came to learn Dharma from Shannan, Linzhi, Dazi and other places. The temple gives each anila 400 yuan a month.

For example, the ritual of offering sacrifices in temples is "the ritual of offering sacrifices to Tara", "the ritual of practicing yoga mother", "the ritual of respecting Buddha mother for longevity", etc. According to the requirements of the temple, "daily recitation" is held in the Sutra hall at eight o'clock every day, that is, the ceremony of offering sacrifices, which ends at four o'clock in the afternoon. There are seven large-scale group chanting meetings every month.
On the 30th of the Tibetan calendar, the "repentance ritual" was held, mainly to learn and practice the "additional practice of Bodhi Dao and recite the second ritual".
On the fifth day of every month in the Tibetan calendar, "goddess compensation ritual" is held. This Buddhist ceremony is close to the fireworks opening in the Han Dynasty. It rewards the "six armed patriarch", "auspicious heaven retreats from the enemy Buddha mother", "goddess of twelve poles" and "much heard heaven" and other Dharma protecting gods with offerings such as meeting and giving food. On the eighth day of every month, "four mandala of Tara" and "pharmacist Buddha" are held.

Then, on the 21st day of each month, the ceremony of "great Weide and one brave man entering the summit" was held.
