Historical evolution
Historical changes
Yaer hutong is a long alley in Xicheng District of Beijing. Yaer Hutong, formerly known as guanghuasi street in the Ming Dynasty, was called "Yaner Hutong" in the early Qing Dynasty because it was located on the northern edge of Houhai. It was later falsely rumored as Yaer Hutong. After 1949, Beijing Municipal Government reorganized the name of the Hutong and changed it to "Ya" and called it Yaer Hutong. At the east end of Yaer hutong is Yinding bridge, the most famous stone bridge in Beijing. The whole Yaer Hutong winds westward along the North Bank of Shichahai, parallel to the north edge of Houhai, and extends to Ganlu Hutong on the west edge of Houhai.
present situation
Nowadays, with the overall commercial development of Houhai by Shichahai District Management Committee of Xicheng District, Beijing, the whole Houhai coastal area has become the second largest bar gathering area in Beijing after Sanlitun Bar Street. Yaer hutong is built near the lake with beautiful scenery. Many houses have been converted into bars. The noisy and quiet scene of Huayang is no longer the same.
Characteristics of Hutong
On Yaer Hutong, which is nearly one kilometer long, there are many urban level cultural relics protection units and former residences of celebrities, such as Guanghua temple in Ming Dynasty, Song Qingling's former residence, which used to be the residence of Prince Chun, and the former residence of writer Xiao Jun, which is called "snail house".
Home of Mad. Song Qingling
Guanghua temple was built in Wanli of Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in Xianfeng of Qing Dynasty. It was one of the famous temples in the old capital. In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, the government planned to build the capital library (now known as the National Library of China) in Guanghua temple. It was not until 1917 that the library moved out of Guanghua temple. Guanghua temple is a cultural relic protection unit in Beijing and the office of Beijing Buddhist Association. It often organizes Buddhist activities.
Snail House
Now the Snail House has been empty, and its fate is worrying.
The old house name that can be seen vaguely is the name given by the writer Xiao Jun for his small building in yard 6 of ya'er Hutong. From 1951 until his death, Xiao Jun lived in this wooden two-story building for 37 years. In chuocho Curie, Xiao Jun wrote novels of millions of words, such as the mine in May, the spring and Autumn Annals of Wu and Yue, the third generation, the notes to Lu Xun's letters and the notes to Xiao Hong's letters. He also experienced the disaster of the cultural revolution. Xiao Jun's former residence is a cultural relic protection unit in Beijing, but by the beginning of 2005, the two-story building had been emptied, and most of the other buildings in yard 6 of Yaer Hutong had also been demolished. Residents who have not yet moved said that the courtyard had been bought by Cheng Siyuan's daughter, and the house will be demolished soon. The future fate of this Beijing heritage site is worrying.
