Historical evolution
Name source
The park was built in 1953 and opened on May 16, 1955 (the sixth anniversary of the liberation of Wuhan), so it is called "Liberation Park".
Park history
Jiefang Park was formerly known as the Western business Racecourse in Britain, France, Russia, Germany, Japan and Belgium.
1905: British businessmen bought more than 800 mu of land in the northeast of Hankou at the price of one or two strings of money per square foot to establish the Western business Jockey Club.
1949: on May 16, the Communist Party of China occupied Wuhan, and the "Xi Shang racecourse" was also owned by the Communist Party of China. Five units, including the Central South Bureau, the army, and the public security school, settled here.
1951: the Central South Bureau, the Central South military region, the Central South military and political Commission and other units held a forum and decided to transform the outfield of the former Xishang Racecourse into a park.
In 1952, the first nursery in Wuhan was built and the park was opened.
1955: on May 16, the sixth anniversary of Wuhan's change of banner, Jiefang Park was built and opened.
1956: the remains of 15 martyrs of the Soviet air force volunteers who died in the defense war in Wuhan are moved from the national cemetery to the Liberation Park for burial.
1972: the octagonal cloister water system was excavated, and the layout gradually changed from the Western regular layout to the Chinese garden style of "imitating nature".
2004: from October 21, Jiefang park will be open to the public free of charge.
In November 2005, Jiefang Park began to be closed and transformed, and the transformation of water body is one of the key points. Wuhan City adopted the design of Vincent eisling, a Canadian landscape expert, to build an ecological wetland to purify the polluted lake water by biological means. The newly built ecological wetland is composed of one large lake, two small lakes, four connecting ditches and one water purification channel. The water of the great lake is lifted to two impounding lakes by the pumping station, then flows slowly into the ecological sedimentation tank through four connecting channels, and finally flows into the great lake through the clean water tank, forming a periodic cycle. The whole lake water can be recycled three times a year.
2006: on March 22, the reconstruction project of Jiefang park officially started.
2006: on September 28, a new Jiefang park opened to welcome visitors.
2009: "brilliant 60 years - 2009 Wuhan flower exhibition" is sponsored by Wuhan Municipal People's government and jointly organized by Wuhan Greening Committee, Wuhan landscape Bureau and Wuhan Evening News. A total of 41 groups of large-scale zhajing and more than 2 million pots of flowers were exhibited. The flower exhibition lasted for 22 days. The park's "happy Cultural Square" organized 18 large-scale performances, such as "art performance for the new year", "fine art performance for the middle-aged and the elderly", "children's day on June 1", "Jiangan district's 2009 National Fitness Day celebration", "large-scale red song singing of the motherland" and "marriage meeting for love on National Day". From September to December 2009, Wuhan Municipal Development and Reform Commission and Changjiang Daily jointly held the selection of "Ten Classic projects in Wuhan in brilliant 60 years".
2011: on October 4, tourists watch the flower exhibition with the theme of 1911 Revolution in Hankou Jiefang park.

Introduction to scenic spots
China mingta Garden
In the early 1990s, Wuhan Jiefang park built a large-scale "famous Chinese Tower Garden" on nearly 20 mu of its central island. The picture shows the first ancient pagoda in China, Songyue Temple Pagoda in Dengfeng, Henan Province.
Mingta garden is located in the central island of Jiefang Park, surrounded by water, green trees and quiet environment, covering an area of 20 mu. Construction started in November 1991, and the "buyue tower" was built the next year. This tower imitates the style of Qing Dynasty. It has seven floors and octagons, and is 26 meters high. There are revolving stairs inside, which can be viewed from high. There are 50 world famous towers around the tower. The corridor along the island of the pagoda garden is more than 300 meters long. The Yongcui bridge and waterside pavilion in front of and behind the pagoda add to the simplicity of the modern garden.
Tombs of air force martyrs
The tomb of the martyrs of the Soviet air force volunteers is in Hankou Liberation Park in Wuhan city. It is the tomb of 15 internationalist soldiers of the Soviet air force volunteer team who died bravely to support the Chinese people during the Anti Japanese war.
It was originally in the Wanguo cemetery on Chen Huaimin Road, Zhongshan Avenue, and was moved here in 1956. The cemetery covers an area of more than 10000 square meters. The tomb is made of granite, 3 meters high and 23 meters wide. The front of the tomb is inlaid with a list of 15 martyrs. There are memorial tablets on the left and right, engraved in Chinese and Russian respectively. The square in front of the tomb has a square cone with a height of 10 meters
The monument stands majestically, and the front of the monument is engraved with "the tomb of the martyrs of the Soviet air force volunteers". In front of the monument, there is a broad tomb Road, lined with pines and cypresses on both sides, which makes the landscape of the cemetery more solemn and magnificent.
Cherry Blossom corridor
There are mainly early cherry and late cherry in Jiefang park. There are about 400 cherry trees in the park. Every year when the cherry blossoms are blooming, it is beautiful against the small bridge and flowing water.
The park's most concentrated cherry viewing place is the gate No.1, which extends from cherry blossom slope to the area of Bama and wetland lake. With the wetland as the center, there are lots of Cherry Blossom forests near the arc slope and lanzhan. Walking along the pebble path, the sun is pouring down from the trees, and the light waterfall is like rain; the breeze is passing through the branches, and the gossamer is like wisps. You may as well stand under the cherry trees and enjoy the feeling of the sea of flowers. Meihua Mountain is very close to the cherry blossom slope. Next to the cherry blossom, there are some palace powder, green calyx and fragrant Chimonanthus praecox.
After enjoying the sea of cherry blossoms, there is a cherry corridor in the park. On both sides of hanqiuqiao road of Jiefang Park Management Office, Japanese evening cherry trees are planted, interspersed with Chinese fir trees. When it comes to the flowering season, the wind blows the pink petals, and the path will form a cherry blossom corridor.
The third place to enjoy cherry trees is the famous Chinese pagoda garden in the park. There is a main tower and some small towers, which are pocket versions of famous towers all over the country. It has a history of more than 20 years by 2013. Small cherry trees are planted near the small slope of the main tower. It's very pleasant to visit the small tower and enjoy cherry blossoms.
Park facilities
There are cinemas, tennis courts, swimming pools, bowling halls, boating and other recreational projects for tourists' entertainment, as well as supporting catering, tea houses and commercial service outlets. There is also a cinema and a number of children's activities facilities. But unfortunately, because of the safety of entertainment, Ferris wheel, spaceship, flying carpet and other modern amusement projects have been demolished.
