Natural climate

Xinglong Tropical Garden base is located in the South China Sea. In 1992, Mr. Zheng Wentai, a patriotic Chinese, started the construction process of Xinglong Tropical Garden on a land with aging rubber garden, abandoned farmland and residual Valley rainforest.

Planting and breeding

Over the past ten years, about one million tropical plants have been planted in Xinglong Tropical Garden, and thousands of tropical and subtropical plants from all over the world have been introduced to the garden for planting and breeding, such as longchuanhua, foxtail coconut, red Areca catechu, Overlord palm, long leaf dark fern, etc. After more than 10 years of efforts, the ecological environment in the garden is improving day by day, and the biomass is increasing. The tropical garden has built a demonstration area with more than 3400 plant varieties and different functions. At the same time, the tropical garden has become a wildlife release point and an important protection area, as well as a habitat for all kinds of migratory birds.

According to incomplete statistics, more than 60 kinds of birds and dozens of wild animals such as rabbits, foxes, monkeys and snakes have been found in 400 hectares of tropical gardens. This is a "kingdom" of tropical plants and a treasure house of rare and endangered plants. The garden has planted 350000 tropical ornamental plants of thousands, including 65 rare and endangered plants, 27 listed in the Red Book of Chinese plants, and 8 introduced and cultivated rare and endangered plants. Facing extinction, plants are protected, propagated and formed communities.

Visitors to the garden can enjoy returning to nature and integrating education into recreation. It arouses people's awareness of loving nature, protecting ecology and environment, and makes contributions to the ecological environment construction of the surrounding areas of the garden, Hainan Province and even South China. In line with the original intention of protecting and restoring tropical rainforest resources, optimizing ecological environment, opening up tropical forest tourism resources other than "coconut breeze and Sea Charm" and promoting the sustainable development of Hainan tourism, the garden builders began to restore and protect the original structure of tropical rainforest, and ex situ protect rare tropical rainforest species.

In the early stage of tropical garden construction, measures such as closing hillsides for afforestation, forbidding felling and hunting were taken to protect the existing natural forests and various organisms in the base, especially the unique native tree species. Turf was planted to conserve water and soil and promote the recovery of local plant resources. Then, in order to overcome the narrow genetic range of plant species in the park, many endemic species and rare and endangered plants, such as Cycas hainanensis, Alsophila spinulosa, Hainan brown, Dracaena hainanensis, Dalbergia odorifera, Celastrus sinensis, and Sabina longifolia, were ex situ protected and transplanted to appropriate locations in the park. At the same time, in order to promote the protection and development of biodiversity and create an environment suitable for the reproduction of various microorganisms, insects and animals, such as butterflies, birds, foxes, wild boars, monkeys and other small wild animals, a large number of nectar and pollen sources, berries, nuts, climbing vines, shade plants, orchids, ferns, lichens and other plants were planted. With the full protection and restoration of the tropical rainforest in the garden base and the full development of the biodiversity in the garden, the development of the tropical garden is moving towards the goal of building into a demonstration base with optimized ecological environment and harmonious coexistence between human and nature.
