Air force early warning Academy was established in 1952, formerly known as air force radar academy, and was rebuilt as air force early warning Academy in 2011. The academy is the only specialized Academy in the field of early warning and surveillance in China, and the only academy with early warning and surveillance and electronic countermeasures as the main discipline in the whole army. It is one of the military information capability training bases and a national first-class undergraduate military academy. It mainly undertakes the training tasks of command and technical officers and sergeants of the early warning system and ground electronic countermeasures forces of the whole army. The college is run by "one college and four places". The headquarters of the college is located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, covering a total area of more than 2.3 million square meters. In the course of more than 60 years of construction and development, the college has formed "three distinctive characteristics": the school running characteristics that resonate with the development of the national early warning and monitoring system, the education and training characteristics of intensive training of talents, and the "three to one long-term" education characteristics. In particular, since 1975, the national defense ideological education with "three to one long term" as the main content has been carried out among the students, which has had a wide influence both inside and outside the army. In 1987, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of education, the general political department and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League jointly transmitted the experience of the college. Among the graduates, 20 have grown into generals of the Republic, 15 have won the "Medal for outstanding children and women in the border of the motherland", known as the "cradle of radar officers", and 13 grass-roots units brought by the graduates He was awarded the honorary title by the Central Military Commission and the Party committee of the air force.

The college has a strong faculty with high educational level, fine professional quality and reasonable echelon structure. Among them, more than 90% are postgraduates with master's degree or above, including one specially appointed academician, more than 200 professors and associate professors, 15 excellent teachers of the whole country and the whole army, and 11 experts who enjoy the special allowance of the State Council. At present, the college has 3 doctoral degree authorization points, 13 master's degree authorization points, 3 Military (provincial) key disciplines, 6 military "2110" project key construction disciplines and professional fields, 3 first-class discipline postdoctoral mobile stations and 1 postdoctoral research workstation.

The college has two key military laboratories, combat simulation center, integrated training system and other practical teaching platforms, as well as the largest radar equipment practical training base in the army. There is a standard track and field stadium and a multi-functional gymnasium in the hospital. The library has a collection of 500000 books and 1.2 million digital books.
